Insurance For Road Racing Classes?

My Houston-area State Farm agent told me today that High Performance Driver Education classes are not covered under my policy.

Has anyone confirmed with their agent that their policy covers DE events?

I want to do the Texas World Speedway event in a couple of weeks, but I'm not sure I have the guts to run naked with those walls and tire barriers.

Read your policy carefully. Some policies cover it, others don't. In many cases they actually do. It is called drivers education. There is a video of a guy flipping his Subaru Legacy at the track. His insurance covered it because it was an educational event.

Ask your agent how much a policy to cover the event would cost? shop around. I think the SCCA offers policies or can point you to the companies that do.

Thanks for the info.

You're right that my policy might technically cover it because it's non-timed and non-competitive. But I'm not inclined towards battling an insurance company for coverage. I'd rather purchase a policy specifically for the track, provided the cost wasn't insane.

I found some companies on the 'Net that I'm trying to contact. NASA TX (National Auto Sports Association - Texas Chapter) has an "Insurance" link on their site, but it brings up a "coming soon" message.

I'm a little irritated with the TWS people. I contacted them for some references, but they refused to give me any. I'm interested in driving their track, but I get a bad vibe off of some of their staff I've spoken with (both in person a few weeks ago and on the phone this week). They talk bad about other organizations and tracks; there's no need for that.

If I come across any solid info, I'l post it.

It's not covered by insurance unless they tell you it's covered. SCCA event's give you health insurance for your body (and even more coverage if your a member). But otherwise most racing (timed or non-timed) has no insurance on you or your car.

Look in Grassroots Motorsport. They have a number of insurance company ads.

Man, I somehow overlooked your response last week. Thanks for the info!

I went to Grassroots' website and looked through their ads, but didn't see anything. I'm having them send me a free sample issue (due in about 6 weeks).

I don't suppose I could trouble you for a company name or two in the interim?
