Nissan AZEAL Concept Stays Close to Home in Detroit Debut
Nissan’s AZEAL Coupe, the first concept car created at the new Nissan Design America, Inc. studios in Farmington Hills, Mich., is set to debut at the 2005 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in early January. The AZEAL Coupe Concept is a fresh interpretation of the “pocket rocket” – an affordable, high performance entry-level coupe with an emphasis on personality and aggressive styling.

Engine: Turbocharged 2.5-liter I-4
Horsepower: not disclosed
What the automaker says: "The Azeal is a fresh interpretation of the classic compact sports coupe - an affordable, performance-oriented entry-level coupe with the style and personality to match the lifestyles of its young, active target buyers."
The AutoWeek Take: Entry-level cars needn't be uninspiring, dull econoboxes, as evidenced by Nissan's Azeal concept. Azeal is the first car to come from Nissan's new studio in Farmington Hills, Michigan, a Detroit suburb, and maybe it is the Midwest influence, but for a concept, the car feels real-as in it could join the Nissan ranks today and look like it fits right in as the Altima's little brother. Powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder mated to a six-speed manual transmission, the Azeal features 2+2 seating with a glass panel roof.
Production possibility: Unknown.
