Nissan tops owner satisfaction survey
New vehicle buyers rate the company's SUV, large pickup and large car No. 1, says research firm.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Nissan led the field in a measure of new vehicle owner satisfaction produced by research firm and consulting firm Strategic Vision.
Nissan won for best overall company, Strategic Vision said Monday, based on results from a survey that assessed the ownership experience -- buying, owning and driving new vehicles -- using information gathered from nearly 50,000 customers who bought 2005 models in October and November of 2004.
Buyers rated Nissan products the No. 1 SUV and large pickup. The company also tied for best large car and its Infiniti division took home top honors for best near-luxury SUV.
"The common thread in Nissan and Infiniti models is superior delivery of power, style and innovation," Strategic Vision vice president Daniel Gorrell said in a statement. "The company's strongly focused product effort suggests a route struggling domestic companies might follow."
Strategic Vision, a company that specifically studies consumer decision-making factors, has calculated the Total Quality Index each year since 1995.
"As the number of new vehicles and segments continues to grow, understanding the emotional needs of buyers in each segment will be critical," the research firm's president Dr. Darrel Edwards said.
"Successful companies will be able to deliver products generating such positive emotional experiences that they delight their customer. That builds loyalty with significant monetary implications," Edwards added.
