What's Charlotte Like?

I was considering a relocation to Raleigh but an employment opportunity may have arisen in Charlotte. Can anyone compare the two? I really liked the idea of Raleigh because its closer to VIR.

Thanks,
Jake

Charlotte is the place to be if you want to move to North Carolina. Raleigh is the capital but there are more things to do in Charlotte.

I just noticed Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, SC is not far away. Has anyone been there? What's the night life like in Charlotte? Restaurants? Stuff for kids?

The Queen City is great. For adults, kids, anyone. It's the only true city in NC (where there is actual nightlife, sporting evens, etc. after hours)...

Is NASCAR really big there? I hate NASCAR. Will I hate everyone because I hate NASCAR? Did I mention I hate NASCAR?

And where's a good place to live? I'd probably buy a new house between 2500 and 3000 square feet. I'd like a location close to convenient shopping and eating and schools (for my son) and wouldn't mind if there was some good cycling and mountain biking close by.

Its a distinct possibility. Have you seen this:

This one's only an hour and a half away. Nice to know there are 2 tracks pretty close. I'll keep in touch and let you know if it looks like I'm going there.

I live in Raleigh now and have all my life. My wife is from Charlotte and moved here to be with me, but we both wish we could be in Charlotte. Better landscape, better night life, more activities for 25-40 year olds. If you are looking for a house that size, the southern side of charlotte is the place to live. On the Matthews (small city) side. Very clean, but the cost of living is slightly higher than Raleigh. Hope this helps.

Chris

How is are the jobs there... I will be looking for something in the 50K range, are there pretty decent jobs that can meet my needs? I would prefer to work with cars in some way but for money I will do pretty much anything
