Hi I'm New

Hello everyone,

I have been considering getting an Evo IX for awhile now. At the moment I drive a 06' Corolla LE. Anyone have any suggestions on if I should trade it in to get an Evo or just keep it?

Oh and I was wondering since I got to school and work part time how much do you think it would take to maintain having an Evo? with issurance, car payments, and gas? Like how much do you make on average?

Well thanks for any advice.

once a year, 600(1200 for stock) in tires. between 10 to 25k miles you willl need a clutch(1300). brake pads 10 to 30k miles(200). mobil 1 oil. I personally swap spark plugs with oil changes. insurance depends on alot. i pay about 100 bucks a month, but i am 28 and havent had an insurance claim since i was 16(except windshield). car payment depends on what you owe on the corolla, how much cash you have.... usually around 600 to 700. gas. if you get tuned, it actually gets better. youll be lucky to get over 20. when i didnt do any highway driving i got 15.

I highly doubt you will be able to afford it on a part-time income. Now Im not saying you don't deserve it or anything in that nature, I just think it would be extremely difficult to maintain properly and make rent, food, insurance, mods (it will happen trust me), bills, etc.

Well I live at home so rent and food I don't have to pay. The corolla is all paid off and right now my insurance is 1800 for 6months (b/c im 20 and the policy is all in my name). But if i get the Evo with the insurance increase I will only pay the overflow b/c my mom pays for my insurance at the moment. So the costs I will be getting is the car payments which I figure if I trade the corolla will be like $16-17000 over like 3 years and then I will pay for the new insurance - $1800 for 6 months, and gas and maintaince.

If your paying 1800/ 6 months on a Corolla Id hate to see whats its going to be for an Evo.

Ill go out on a limb here and say the cost of maintaning an Evo as a daily driver is:

Fuel $1820/year or close to that
Oil changes $200-300/year depending on if you use a better oil than Mobil 1
Insurance $3600 or more/ year
Registration $30 I think thats what it is in FL

So as of right now your looking at over 5k in very basic things. See how quickly it adds up? What if you get a flat tire or 2 or more? Parking tickets, or worse being towed. Get busted for street racing?

Why did you get the Corolla just to get rid of it in less than a year? You have probably less than 4 years of driving under your belt, not that its a bad thing but trust me O-town drivers are worst of the worst Ive seen.

I say do whatever you feel is right and live within your means. Good luck.

Thanks... where is that dealership located at? Are you the west colonial dealership?

If so I have been there and talked to them. They seem really cool

Evo-Joker,

- insurance, just call the person that you buy from now and ask for a quote.
- car payments, go to kbb.com and figure out what your cars worth on trade-in and subtract that from the price of which Evo you want, the use the google calculator to figure out your monthly payments based on the interest rate you can get.
- gas, the car gets 15-25 depending on how and where you drive. you can estimate that.

All that you can basically figure out on your own.

The only question left is maintenance cost. The stock tires go quick. I got 20k miles out of mine. I still have stock pads and clutch and neither have signs of much wear. Now I do have warped front rotors that need replacing. So in one year I've done oil changes, air filter, tires, need rotors and I think that's it.

And as a side note, Dryad001, what oil do you think is better then Mobil 1?
