Tampa's Lancer Thread!!!
no one here has a red lancer.
Wow, header! That will definately sway the advantage to you now, cory. Watch out, you'll definately chirp tires in 1st gear and gain so much TQ off the line.
Also, I've installed the S-afc w/ the 4g64/6g72 MAS. It's running great, but I can't seem to get the O2 sensor reading properly. Needs some tuning because I'm losing a bit of MPG.

so Cory...I guess you don't care about the warrenty(sp?)? All that stuff that is in your car now, I think mine too (intake) has vioded the warrenty. The only reason why I don't have a header on mine is for that reason. I mean with the intake I can just put the old one on. But N-E-Ways! How is everyone? been busy I see with puttin that S-afc w/ the 4g64/6g72 MAS. What the hell is that. have ya'll seen that pic of the lancer in Ca with a turbo from I think RRM. Thing looks so good, very clean. The last pic that I saw had zip ties all over the place.
Lets get a meeting going again. Lets try for the Thursday, some time during the day.

It's an A'pexi S-AFC = adj air/fuel mixture controller. The 4g64/6g72 MAS (from the 3g eclipse 4 banger and the 97-98 3000SL) has a bigger inlet for air than the stock MAS from the 1.8 mirage and 2.0 lancer.
Did you take a look at the opening on the Lancer's MAS? It's very small compared my new MAS . . . imagine about 30% more air coming into the engine (performance-wise). I know GM and the Contour/Cougar has a thing like this too - bigger MAS can bring an average 6-12 HP w/ decent amount of TQ right off the bat (their is already tuned to their specific ecu).
So far, I haven't encountered the CE light yet like last time w/o the AFC. Tuning is an big issue now since it running a bit rich (sucking a gallon more on 100 miles), shifting out of 1st a bit funny to 2nd, can't find the o2 from the ecu to get a correct reading, and other small issues. I'll try to show you pics soon.

You can see how much airflow can possibily flow more in the 6g64/6g72 MAS than our stock MAS.
When I did this mod in the past w/o the AFC, my car ran great until it ran lean at the 40 mile marker with a CE (check engine) light. Currently, I'm still battling tuning issues.

david not to argue, but the 2.o MAS is just as big, if not bigger than the 4g64/6g72 MAS......i may be wrong, but i remember that thing was damn huge when i installed my intke......so am i mistaken?
I know about not arguing.
Size wise- both are the same in mass w/ the same connector pins. The differnce is the inlet . . . you can see it between the two and how much the MAF sensor counts the air flow.
Both the 2.4 4-banger eclipse and the 3.0 6-banger 3000SL (NA) use the MAS for bigger air consumption. If you drop our smaller inlet, stock MAS in their motor, it will gasp a lot since it is being restricted to take lesser air (probably throw a CE light).
Right now, it's untuned, and I have unbelievable passing power from 80-100 mph w/ just at 75% throttle (sucking a bit more fuel - tuning issues again). It feels like it's in the 130-135 HP range, not sure on the TQ range yet.
And if you're crazy enough, try splicing the 2g eclipse 4g63T MAS onto the car. That MAS is huge in mass about 40% and inlet air about 60-70% more than our stock MAS. Only the 4g and 97 mirage can use its pin connector . . . our is too small.

so if i got to a local junk yard and pick up a 2g 4g63T eclipse MAS, i will need a AFC controler???? and also a 2g fuel pump, and upgrade my fuel rail, ect?

and if i dont have a controler, ill throw a ce light?

was at the track on fri night....got there about 9pm.....ran 17.8 again.....getting my cold air intake fri want to see how much of a difference it will do.....thursday wont be able to meet with you guys b/c i work....

As for the 2g 4g63T MAS, the stock wire harness is too small for the huge MAS. Major league splicing will be involved, and as far as I know no one has attempted it on the 98-02 mirage and 6g Lancer. I just know 2 people: a 4g 1.8L with the same size harness as the 4g63T has done it, but he has rough idle w/o the AFC (just blocked off the holes a bit). In O-town, the DSM'ers were going to help to install it in a 97 mirage (same size harness s the 4g63T) with TC to better count the airflow since the stock one can't keep up w/ the TC'er.
Fuel Pump- get it from a local DSM'er w/ TC - one of the first mods to replace. Don't replace yours yet until +50K . . . a lot of effort to drop the tank. I had done mine at the 63K mark since it was surging a bit (dirty filter on the pump).
Fuel Rail- no one makes one, except finding a customized shop to make it billet.
Thursday, wait and see.
