ACT Clutches

Just looking for opinions on ACT clutches. I need to replace my stock clutch and looking for bang for the buck basically . Would love to do a Exedy twin disc but dont have $1500 laying around... Any input would be helpful . .

I'll give you my input. I don't have either but am stuck in the same boat you are in. I've talked to all the guys at Buschur and a few others on the forums and they have all recommended the Exedy Twin Disc. The way I figure it, if you're going to get a new clutch you might as well do it right the first time and feel content knowing you're running safe. Just my 2 cents

wait and save up, don't waste your cash on something like ACT at lease not for Evos. I learned that the hard way.

Have had an ACT 6 puck in mine for a few months now, 5k miles and still feels amazing. Has been launched several times and it still does the job as good as day one. Pedal feel is great too, a bit stiffer than stock but still easily DD'able.

They work fine, can be had for $500 for an HDSS which is what 90% will ever need. Is the Exedy Twin disk better? Of course, but it is also 3 times the price, get an HDSS, and be done with it.

agreed but after 7k the **** locks you out.!! trust me you get what you pay for..im not saying its a bad clutch..but it got real frustrating at the track when it prevented me from going 11's with ease.

I have run act street disc for the last 50K and at least 100 passes at the trak, still drives good and holds the power when lunching but i started to get gear lock out so is time for a new one, going to buy an ACT 6 puck sprung this time so for the money can't beat that

I would **** at 8 in my HDSS, it would shift way past 7800-8200, it is fine, adjust it. I would nail 1.8 60 foot on all season tires and ride out 4th, it was perfect IMHO.

Never taken a ride in an Evo with a ACT Clutch but I did install the RPS Turbo Max Clutch and has never sliped or giving me problems... Installed at 8000mi and now at 26000. Never heard anything bad about RPS, I would do some research, I cant say the same for ACT!!!...

I expect if you don't launch your car at every stop light you will be ok with the act, But I have a question for Raymi... ( what makes your car grind sometime when going to reverse??? syncros? or clutch?)

Do some research!!!

syncros.....if it was the clutch it would gring in other gears rather than just reverse......

i spoke with a tech from ACT at MOD 08 and they admitted to a lock out issue they are looking into finally. they have made a solid disk now that is in a few test cars. it is a unsprung disk and gives a little noise he said. they developed this disk back in February...?? i think that is what he said.

the lock out issue, as he stated, may be from an inertia issue from the disk. they have had zero issues now with this solid disk at high rpm. the timing of the clutch and syncro's from inertia at the higher rpm may be solved for ACT.

they also said that they are now looking into using Kevlar as a clutch material. some say it is great, some say dont even use it. once it gets too much heat, its game over. that is why Tilton wont use it. Tilton says you can rely on it for longevity, however, once the heat limit is reached of the marcel, it cannot be recovered like a regular clutch or carbon.

so who has the solid disk from ACT on here?? and how is it doing??

comments from ACTMAN???? enlighten us please..=-)
