hey guys the alabama racing scene forum is doing a Little River Canyon ruise on May 30th which is the last saturday of the month. C and i are going, and i wanted to see if anyone else on here wants to come. that road is a lot of fun and it's a beautiful area. here is the main post with the info....
2009 ARS Canyon Cruise
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SteveO is the brains behind this, but he has been pre-occupied lately. I'm going to try and help organize this event (by copy - pasting last year's info ).
This was a fun event for fast driving OR cruising last year. If you do not feel comfortable speeding down "extremely steep, winding" back roads, no worries. Last year we had everything from cablebandit's turbo v8 beast and a v8 miata to some slow guy in a red minivan. Go at your own pace.
When: May 30th, 2009 (with a rain date of June 27th)
Where:Meet at Home Depot in Trussville and then travel 90+ miles to Little River Canyon National Preserve.
What Time: Meet at 8:00AM
WTF: Spend the day driving the roads and enjoying the awesome view in one of only a handful of National Preserves in the US and one of the best parks in Alabama.
Itinerary:
Meet at Home Depot in Trussville at 8AM.
Pre-Departure meeting.
Leave Trussville no later than 8:30AM.
Meet with NE/East Alabama people @ undecided breakfast location 9:30AM.
Light Breakfast @ Cracker Barrel / Waffle House / Undecided
Fuel Stop - Everyone needs to have enough fuel once we enter the park to drive at least 70 miles.
Arrive at the park around 11AM.
Stop at the falls for a break/photo op and pre-run meeting/safety talk
Travel the 22 miles to the Canyon Mouth Park via Little River Canyon Pkway, possibly stopping at the overlooks on the way.
Arrive at the Canyon Mouth Park. Spend time taking photos, hiking, swimming, fishing, etc etc.
Cookout something simple for lunch. Grill hotdogs, hamburgers etc.
Cruise back up LRC Parkway.
If time allows, drive to Desoto Falls.
Leave park.
Stop somewhere around Gadsden to refuel if necessary
First leg:
Little River Canyon falls to County Road 275
Second:
County Road 275 to Canyon Mouth Park
Notes:
There is no entrance fee to the Preserve, however there is one at the Canyon Mouth Park. I believe it was open for donations, bring cash to support the area.
NO ALCOHOL WILL BE PERMITTED ON THIS CRUISE. THIS IS A DRIVING EVENT.
Bring your two way radios if you have them.
If anyone is interested in going, but does not wish to drive, ask in this thread and Im sure you can find someone to ride with.
I suggest everyone bring something to drink with them into the park as there are no places to stop once you get into the preserve.
Post up if your going.
