Question for you guys. I have a AMS TBE. I was thinking about throwing it on this weekend for the autocross and seeing how loud it is and what not. I have no A/F guage or software, is it safe? I here a lot of folks saying youmust get a tune and this and that, how bad will it really be? Also I am unsure if the car has a tune because someone told me that with my K&N intake that the car would not run correctly or smoothly wihtout a tune, which my car runs fine. Thoughts opinions?

Good question. I wouldn't personally be terribly worried by what I've seen, but I'd definitely research a bit more. If anyone's bored and wants to provide emotional support, I'll be installing some parts on Thursday or Friday. Mini battery, uicp, front engine mount. Should be my last mods before my TSComp tune. Injectors, 3port, and 4 bar will be done right at the tune.

Every car is different, so there is no absolute correct answer. You "should" be fine, but under severe conditions such as auto cross you might be better off waiting for at least a gauge. I just have a Catback and I never go wot because I don't have an AF gauge yet and no tune. The reason I havn't got a test pipe yet is because I don't have a tune yet. So you may just want to do the CAtback section till tune time.

I'd worry about boost creep too, not sure how bad it would be on these cars, but it was ridiculous on the MS3.

Valid points. I've done a lot of researching and obviously found a ton of people who say thats its a terrible idea, but most of those same people are just re-hashing what they have heard and nobody has any real evidence of what could happen. I saw one guy said that it changed is A/F fromlike 12 to 13 (I dont remember the exact numbers but it wasn't much). I don't know much about the computers in these cars but with them having a MAF, two O2 sensors, MAP sensor, I would assume the car would adjust somewhat to changing condistions. IDK. You know how it is, I walk by that exhaust every morning and I'm like dang, I wanna put that on.

I would be super comfortable putting the Cat back on because I know that wouldn't change thing enough to hurt the car, but it the TB AMS. It won't bolt up to the cat like other exhausts.

Meant to tell you thanks for telling me about the propeller shaft bushings. I did those and the beat rush rear diff inserts and it was one of the best things Ive done for the car.

Do you have the means for a tune? Might do you well to go ahead and spend a little extra cash and get a fuel pump and a EBCS and get tuned.

Not a problem man, glad you're enjoying it! These cars really benefit from upgrading the bushings, it's such a better driving experience.

I do not have the means for a tune. I wanna do more parts before I dump hundreds of dollars in a tune. Another thing is I run the STU class in autocross so I can't adjust boost and stay in that class, so I can't really get the full potential out of a tune anyways.

I found a few threads on here today that say there is no problem with TBE, that the cars run rich from the factory and the MAF will adjust for the changing airflow.

I have a found a lot of info that says that the car will not run right with the intake I have untuned but my car runs fine. Ive also noticed that the exhaust appears to have been removed and the rear O2 has been handled quite a bit so maybe the car had an exhaust and was tuned befor. Ive also noticed the my boost is kind of funny. I have to convert it from that mitsubishi guage but it appears to go to 20 ish at WOT then drop slightly 17.5-18.5 and never really falls off from there.

I know what you mean, I'm dying to start bolting up parts but I know it makes more sense to wait until I can get some injectors and the rest of my piping. Might as well do it all at once and do it right the first time. Just saves time and money, plus I don't auto crotch, so I don't have limitations!

Update: Well things went my way today. I ran into an old friend today and he had a full wide band setup that he isn't using. He said I can borrow it any time I need it. Ill throw the exhaust on and log some third gear pulls and post the results
