I Figured that it would be well over $2 in Cali.. So i cant complain that much but coming from someone who lives in the south on the east coast i can remeber the days when 87 octane was .89 cents.

its just astonishing how fast the prices just keep going especially since christmass time around here

In FL, some parts of the county sell 93 oct at $1.96 on avg, but you have to search really hard and wide for $1.91. For regular, it's $1.75 to $1.89 on some stations.

Part of the problem is OPEC and another is US refineries (too slow) and Gov't taxes (approx .50 to .70 cents, can't remember the exact figure).

That's my understanding also. It's the Lack of refineries to process the crude oil that is really limiting us more than any other factor. Most US refineries are obsolete. They need to modernize but they won't spend the money because it would dig into their profits. Of course I could be wrong, but that's my understanding.

I hear donce we don't really import that much oil... Only 3-4 % total National use. If everyone would switch to hybrids we could probably eliminate the imports and even get a surplus.

BTW $1.89-$1.99 for 93 Octane along my drive to work on US 1 in Miami.

A lot of Auto manufacturers are now switching their major lines to Hybrid. Lexus is switching their RX330 to Hybrid and Dodge said they were making a Hybrid Durango. Toyota has the new Prius (Not bad, not great.).

There are also a lot of Hybrid concepts that companies put out but nothing makes it to market. Honda had a hybrid sports car that looked absolutely badass but nothing ever came of it. That would be the perfect platform to test hybrid technology.

Most sports exotics are already pricey, so a few thousand $$ more for hybrid tech would not be noticed and they are limited production anyway so you could test a few hundred of these hybrids to get real world data on how they work.

We'll just have to wait til consumer demand goes up or manufacturing processes improve
