things like chainsaws and knives have multiple applications but they are meant to cut down trees for chainsaws and stuff and knives are meant to cut meat, string etc
plate covers however only serve 1 purpose. to put over ur plate theres no other applications for it and canadian tire im pretty sure its government owned, and plus government regulate stictly what can and cannot be sold in canada im sure canadian tire is no exception

yea greedy son! thats wat im gonna do and call him on discrimination too
gonna tell judge that 1) since canadian tire sells it, and they are a giant retailer all across canada so their goods are strictly governed by canadian law, and since the canadian law allows them to sell the plate covers its must be legal otherwise it wouldnt be permitted to be sold across canada
2)cop was following me for 5 mins if he had a trouble seeing my plate he would have pulled me over right away instead of 5 mins after tailing me

Consider the following scenario:
A kid gets pulled over for having a fart cannon aftermarket exhaust. This kid, in court, claims "Oh i bought this exhaust in shop XYZ, I thought it's legal since the shop is local and arn't all shops governed by Canadian Law?!"
It would be naive to think that the "canadian law" is familiar with all of canadian tire's inventory, or any other retail outlet for that matter.
edit:// i also understand your point about plate covers have the sole purpose of covering a license plate, and you are very correct.
But we are not to use Canadian Tire's inventory as a basis of judging whether a car accessory is legal or not, no.
There are plenty of people who get focked in the 'A because of tinted plate covers, and 99% of the time people claim "oh canadian tire sells them". Surely Canadian Tire would've stopped selling them if the court did in fact think the blame is on CT, but fact is, they are still for sale in every CT to this day. This indicates that indeed, items like tinted plate covers should be used at the owner's discretion.
or you cann blame it on the shop u buy itt from
haha sue canadian tire!!
...but
from what little law class has taught me from last semester..or what i remember
the contractual relationship between the buyer and the seller ends when the contract ends which is when the goods is delivered in exchange of some sort of payment. unless there is a stated warranty of the product, the seller is not would not b liable.

^ Bingo.
CT has nothing to do with you getting a ticket. They are a retailer, retailers exist to take your money. They don't care if the product they sell is illegal or not they want your money. The fact that you put it on your car lies entirely on you. Usually and mod that is sold (Lighting dress up, etc) comes with a warning "to be operated with vehicle is not in motion" or some form of that.
The only thing I would suggest, Since the cop was an *** and
1) didn't give you a warning for it and
2) didn't make you remove it then and there
is to fight it. Most cases in the city of Toronto you will never see the court room due to court system back log, and this being such a BS Charge, if you do see the court, or sorry prosecutor or JOP, then say I removed it the day of and show Pic's.
The other ticket as well I can see him issuing a citation for, You failed either to provide your Vehicle registration or you license plate registration. (the detachable part of the ownership.) they technically need to be together unless you sell the car. again file a court date and provide them with both pieces and you should walk away with a warning and no fine, that is if you even see the court.

as for ur permit, just bring it to court, n they'll drop it.
Yeppers, Same applies for failure to surrender vehicle insurance (if you forgot the papers at home) go to court prove to them that you were insured at the time of the officer stopping you and your free.
Blancey you certainly didn't stress this enough but Eric, Be cool. Don't go into it like a hot head, you'll just get into more ****

all you need to do to fight off a ticket for stuff like tinted plate covers is to show proof (i.e. a picture) that you removed the cover and in most cases the charge will be dropped.
