I think this would require alot of time, money, and parts. Im not sure how you would go about this but it maybe cheaper just to buy a Ralliart or even an Evo GSR but i think the evo is a stretch.

You can do it.. however if your not the one doing the labor I dont see it being worth it.
Parts will run you $1000-$1500.. Then factor labor from a shop at $80 - $100 a hour. The rear end install on my car was over 30 hours of work but we rounded it off at 30. So your looking at roughly $3000 for the install if your not able to do it. Its actually not that hard to do, what takes time is all the measuring, drilling, aligning, and sleeving the frame rail properly. Not to mention your fighting with a rear subframe which weighs like 350 + lbs.

The ralliart uses the awd system from the evo 9 so obtaining parts isn't the hard part either.
This would still be cheaper then buying a ralliart though.
Also just rememberd you still need a awd tranny so factor another $1000 in.

If you want to do a swap, do the srt4 engine swap out of the dodge caliber. Its stock 289hp, 6 speed tranny if you want.. According to my research, should bolt in no problem. I've been looking for a salvaged one but they are pretty rare. However I've priced a complete new long block engine for $2300... lol thats cheaper then buying a turbo kit. But you still need the ecu, wiring harness ect which would probably add up to more. If you find a salvaged one, you'd be good to go.

I cant see it being terribly too difficult if the Japanese spec Lancer is AWD it should be completely doable.

Assuming you can come across the OEM spec parts

Your RWD Lancer is an 03. Will the 08+ lancers be any different?

I'm assuming this is directed at me.

Yes.. the chassis are totally different, however the same principles apply.
I havn't done a heck of a lot of research into it but I'm guessing if the ralliart stuff dosn't bolt in.. which I'm guessing it wont beacuse (a. they have the same suspension as the evo)(b.the strut towers are positioned differently on the chassis)
You could use the awd rear end from the outlander like I did with my car.
Heck you could even use awd transmission from that.. I'm sure you could find a wrecked outlander for a couple grand and use all the parts you need. outlanders came in 5 or 6 speed manual... hmmm I can see it now.. srt4 engine from the caliber mated to outlander driveline.. almost 300hp and half the cost of an evo.... maybe a bit more then half if you have a shop do the work..

this is true.. I never said it would be the same... but those of us who dont have that kind of money to let go on a evo.. its an option...

The evo will always be more advanced in every way over our cars but this isn't a debate about being better or being the same as the evo.

if you're going to drop that much $$ you might as well trade in the lancer for a ralliart. awd and boost if you think about it, its the more rational choice

I just didn't want the OP to think that it would make his car an EVO. And think all the handeling would be there aswell.

I disagree. The base lancer is what 16 grand, the ralliart is 32 grand.
That leaves 16 grand to play with... Even if you have the GTS, thats still 7 grand to play with.... Not to mention if you did do that caliber srt4 engine swap, your car is now faster then the ralliart. In my case my insurance on the ralliart is almost double the GTS.. so some people might save there as well.

Kind of wishing i hadnt read this thread, the whole SRT4 & AWD is sounding ridiculously tempting... would make for quite a sleeper.. people see you pull up in a Lancer and dont expect all that much (somewhat like the 84 Malibu and Early 90's 240zx did me in cayuga then lost to me) just to have you blow his doors off...

I dont have money for a EVO. and i dont like the Ralliart. i was asking about AWD because i noticed that the evo engine is a center differential for the all wheel drive.

I dont know what my 4b11 is. Whole point of this thread is to determine if a direct swap of a 4b11T will be of much headache. i want my lancer to be a sleeper. insurance is running me 3500 a year. with the evo, it would be 5k. (the car is under my name) why will the srt4 fit? same components?

on the same note. what is the biggest engine that can be swapped into the lancer GTS? assuming budget was not an issue (which is LOL) but just curious
