Engine Bay Cleaning
Engine Bay Cleaning
Hey guys just wanted to share my experience with you guys of last night. I have had my Lancer for 2 years now and like some of you the engine bay has gotten quite dirty. Here is a step by step guide to what i did and the aftermath photos.
Cleaning Your Engine Bay
Step 1 - If you have an air intake where the filter is exposed remove the filter and place a rag in the pipe to block water from getting in. This is more for people with short rams as its fully exposed.
Step 2 - Spray down the front half of your car from the doors to the front bumper with water.
Step 3 - Open your hood and using a power washer spray down your engine bay.
Step 4 - Using a product called Super Clean which you can get from Walmart for $6 spray down the engine bay and dont be shy.
Step 5 - Close the hood and spray off the front half of your car to make sure you no overspray from the degreaser gets on the paint.
Step 6 - Wait 5 to 10 min open up your hood again and blast away at the engine again. Make sure you do this for atleast 10 min continuously to remove all the degreaser.
Step 7 - Drying Process. Now this you can either do one or two way if you have an air compressor you can blow off all the water or you can do what i did and just let it sit for a day in the sun that will take care of it.
Step 8 - After you have let it dry yous a car detailer to gloss up those faded plastic pieces.
Here is my finished results remember i have had my car for 2 years and have been living in a construction zone for 1 of those years.

Personally I wouldn't power spray your enginebay. Just doesn't seem like a good idea. Lots of pressure might move something. Nice write up nonetheless. I would personally try and follow something like this: http://www.eshine.ca/How_To_Wash_An_Engine_Bay.htm
I would love to do this coz the rust proofing sprayed all over my engine bay is already mixed w/ sand from Wasaga. But the thing is I don't have the rustproofing module (or whatever it's called)
I just did mine last weekend and it worked great, cleaner then new. I would suggest removing your grill and radiator plate so you can get everywhere. I also had a compressor so it made it easier to clean / dry.
P.S: Its illegal to wash down your engine bay in certain regions, so try not to do it at a public car wash. Do it in your own drive way.
As for the electrical, all you need to worry about is the fuse box. Take a plastice bag, wrap it around and use a elastic band to hold it down and tape it up with electrical tape.

In regards to the power washer he is correct i have a cheap power washer from walmart like 1000 psi anything over that i would likely use a different spray nozzle more of a hard mist spray instead.
