What the f!
ok so I spent the better part of the afternoon today traying to change my dam oil..
first my filter was on so tight I couldn't get it off.. like a gorilla put it on.. I ended up punching a wrench through the side of teh filter and using vice grips to crank that sucker off.. .
Then I couldn't for the life of me find how much oil needed to go back in..
I looked on the block and it said 2.4L so I put that in because I was in a rush.
I drove it to work and it died in the parking lot.. I'm working now so I'm worred what i'll find when i go to start it later.. I hope I didn't screw anything up..

The 2.4 L doesnt correspond to the amount of oil! That is the displacement the engine can draw in on one engine cycle (air/fuel mixture).... I have a 2.0 litre evo and it takes just over 4 quarts of oil! If you only put in 2.4 L of oil that means you only put in 2.5 quarts. You should put in around 4.5 quarts (I am note sure on the exact spec...)
DO NOT DRIVE IT AROUND, get it back in the garage, push it or just do it in the parking lot... Put another 2 quarts in and try and start it... if no joy than you siezed the motor and something very well could have snapped due to the stress and grinding of the internal engine parts without sufficient lubrication...
Oil is one of the most important fluids you put in you car, it NEEDS it. Don't do maintenance like this or any other with your car unless you know the exact specifications.

Here is a lil something for a guessing scenerio, 1 Cylinder = 1L then just add a lil extra.
My 6 banger 3.8L took just over 6L of oil. and I still changed it every 6K. lol rule of 6 for that damn t-bird
btw how far did you drive with only 2L of oil anyway??

+1 on asking how far you drove it around, what did it do when you tried to start it? Any sounds? Did it start but with a weird firing sequence? Sputter or anything? Maybe we could at least help diagnose what went wrong (eventhough we know it was the oil) so you could focus on what exact part is the culprit due to insufficient lubrication...

well I made it home.. car wont start... the starter clicks but wont turn over.. I drove about 20min down the 400.. I'm guessing the piston seized inside the block maybe..
I remember everyone talking about tuning and doing maintanace to their cars just before that track day at a meet one night.
I posted in the meet thread "wish i could be there to watch half you guys struggle changing your oil but i cant make this one, sorry guys" and i cant remember who but a few people posted saying "r u serious" and "ur kidding right"...
clearly my point is proven.
but do post updates tho on how much this costs u to fix or if the dealer will cover it...which i doubt since after all it is mitsu. sorry for ur lucky buddy.

obviously warranty is not going to cover this. mitsubishi or not, no warranty is going to cover this type of man-made error.
it's like asking if warranty will cover you in the event you crash your car.

On my older car, thats at 300,000 km on it right now. It survived a 7 litre oil fill in a 4 cyl block due to a Penzoil shop error of over filling my oil (engine) and draining my tranny (auto). Then there was a couple of time during my 20,000km oil runs, that the dip stick was down to low. below the line. driven for km by my mother under I discovered it. No problem.
Running on the Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil. ever since 125,000 when i upgraded from regular mobil 1. All my old cars run with no issues.
Not sure what to say about the Lancer with the 5w20 oil, its a little less forgiving. What kinda oil were u running Turbotime? That said, you might luck out and the damage could be minimal.
