TEIN Basic damper (coilovers) - consideration
All of them use inferior internals and the springs are generic ones aswell. They may all look similar but springs can be of very different quality etc.
Under $1000-1500 I would stick with shocks/springs of good quality, Koni Yellow or FSD, KYB AGX, Tokico D-Spec, Bilstein HD's and a set of RCE, Swift, Eibach Pro-Kit Springs is going to be better for what the end user needs. Coilovers will be harsh, noisey and just aren't designed to be run through the winter in this range...heck I wouldn't even recommend running KW V3's in the winter.

I also ran the 'inferior' coilovers on both the track and the streets, and i must say... i love them! and a 1:46.5x on shanny-long w/ Hoosier R6s proves that it can be a competitive performance setup, it was right up there with a Cobb GT-R, GT3, and a FD on R6s which was a regular at the track at a local lapping day last summer, i've yet to beat that time thus far with the Ohlins.... Hopefully my Dom3XTR will get me there tho.
Point im trying to say is.
Just because some people don't have luck with a product, doesn't mean that they are poorly made. There a quite a good bunch on IW that would recommend the 'inferior' setup over a more expensive setup, and from my personal experence, Seat Time is the best mod you can ever put into a car... with the money i saved up front, i bought RA1s for the street and 2 sets of R6s for the track... and saw my laps drop from the 2:05.xx to being regularly in the high 1:4Xs
Import Image Racing sells the coilovers for under $1000.

while you bring up some good points the problem lies in the fact there isn't a manufacture which you listed that makes an aftermarket shock for the 08+ lancer.
Were stuck with putting lowering springs on the oem shock bodies which is no good.
This is why I would go with the BC's any day over a set of custom swift springs on my oem shocks.
You have to keep in mind majority of the lancer guys wouldn't drop the money for a custom set of JIC's KW v3's or JRZ's ect.. if they were even made for our cars, it just doesn't make sense.
The details you are comparing on the BC's are indeed true but again your stacking them against the higher end of the coilover spectrum they will obviously be inferior but for what 95% of the guys in the club would use them for I could bet they would suit them just fine.

We'll see, only time will tell, but so far, i haven't heard of any problems yet, and for replacements at 95bucks a pop, how can you go wrong? I have 3 sets of springs for my Ohlins on the subbie, could have bought a few whole sets of coilovers for the money i've spent. They weren't harsh, nor did they clunk, it's all about the valving/rates

It really comes down to the needs of the people buying them. You track your car and a setup that you can play around with does make more sense. For what I think 95% of TLC members would use them for a spring makes much more sense in terms of reliability, longevity, comfort and performance.
Would you rather run a set of generic coilovers (D2, BC, Stance etc) on the street or your Ohlins fixed perch struts with springs?
Tires are such a big factor, so commonly overlooked I think.

When valved properly, coil overs can be both comfortable for the street, but aggressive enough for the tracks. As far as reliability, it's all up to how the owner cares for his or her car. I'm running my Ohlins thru the winter, and would have ran my BCs thru it too, but i would have taken precautions to prevent corrosion.
Come out to one of the lapping days or a SoloSprint next summer with me chris!

just a reminder, To night we are having an informal talk at the Chimera about the TEIN coil overs, and the mud flaps..
I also spoke to TEIN directly about warranty, pricing, blah blah blah.. to give a better angle on what this coil over package can and can not do. A few TEIN junkies may be there to add to the conversation.
TEIN also mentioned to share their promo video with everyone.
http://www.tein.co.uk/forum/video/index.html
its PR, but meh, but at least its from the horses mouth
See you guys at the Lounge

Thanks for those who came out to the mini meet
we have a consensus on this Tein kit and will likely move forward with it in January.
The matter will be finalized at the Dec 29th and be included in the agenda for events and special dates for 2010.

Dont you worry WoW, you will have 2 More opportunities to come to the meets to find out. Now that an official dialog has been established with Tein and BC racing.

Suspension stuff will be addressed by TurboTime. He has the suspension portfolio and the final decision is in his hands.
What do I look like to you, someone who is just going to report to you with minutes of the meeting, give me a break, your not even a member of the club, you want to actively participate, by all means come to the meet. Join up and enlighten us on your expert knowledge as you have online here.

I am enlightening you on how much these Teins suck, but you seem to ignore that anyways, so why bother?
I get PMs from your 'members' about how they appreciate me speaking my mind because they don't want to speak up them self, and cause waves. You fail to address questions from your members on many occasions, and when you do reply, the answers are rubbish and don't address the questions at all.
YOU are the problem with this club, and it's not just ex-members who feel that way, ALOT of current 'members' also feel that the club shouldn't be ran by you, but we've chewed that the peices too, so im not going to bring that up.
I don't have beef with you, and im really only doing this for fun while at work... But when your own members can't voice their thoughts, someone has to.

Maybe i am a member? Maybe i'm not, but why does that matter? Is this how you'd respond to your 'members'?

What is a little troubling is that there are going to be some who dont share your opinion. And from what I know of car clubs its the sharing of ideas not bashing. I am glad you find amusing, lol the fact that you have nothing better to do says a little. But if you want to rail against me, go right ahead

People will share many views, but some choose to voice their concerns and attempt to make the best of any situation. Others, go about it in a different way, as you said, has been hashed out already.
I will say this though.... You have given me the idea to do something I have always wanted to do. Its guys like you that really get me motivated
thanks bro.And.....
Happy Holidays

Guys,
You need to chill out and enjoy the Holidays!
There is no sense on arguing over a TEIN thread. For some people the TEINs are the best thing and for others are just not as good. Every suspension part has its own purpose and application. We can discuss and argue ABOUT THAT all we want without getting personal.
Keep this thread on topic!
Again, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
