Issue with my Hella Horn install

Hey guys,

so I installed my Hella Horns today in my 09 lancer, thought it went fairly smooth besides having my make my own wiring set up... Anyways, went to hit the horn to try it out and it sounds much like my stock horn. If I am to unhook one horn (as its a dual set up) the other is louder but still not as loud as friends subaru's ... Any idea what I may have messed up? I checked continuity of all wires involved to make sure power is flowing and its good.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

There is your problem right there. Sounds like not enough power (Volts,Amps etc) is getting to the horns. What gauge wire did you use and where did you hook it up to?

Any pics?

make sure your ground is good and the wires just plug from your old ones to the new

I wish the wiring was just a simple plug.. lol...

I used 12ga wire , crimped and heat shrunk all connections... power is what I assume as well, its a direct hook up to the battery.. wish my camera wasnt in being cleaned or I would shoot some pics for you guys... I ran a line right off the positive connecter as the instructions say and other posts explaining the install say to do, goes right into the relay they provide.

relay has 4 wires on it, old horn wire, power from battery, a ground lead , and a wire which comes down and splits to each horn . tested it all with a ohm meter to make sure I didnt botch the wiring job, no idea where the loss of power is occurring...

thanks for the help guys..

also, here is the drawing I went off for the install, half way down the page - https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...n-install.html

I know its crude but it is essentially a simpler drawing of the electrical layout hella provides..

I put them in my Evo X with all stock horn wires and no relays. They work mint and are loud as F^@&. I can see if I still have my pics and will send them to you if you like.

how do you get power to both? just splice a wire and connect to the original horn straight up? if so I will do that tomorrow, thats way easier... I just didnt want to blow a fuse or something..

if you have pics let me know...

so I tried just using the stock connector and making it go to both horns, its louder but definitely not the advertised db... any way I tried to configure using the supplied relay made it sound stock...

anyone have any other ideas?

Do you have pictures of your setup? It would help people out alot.

Im thinking you need to find a new power source rather then the stock horn. These horns sound like they require alot more power then whats required by the stock horn.

If you are worried about blowing a fuse find out the peak demand (amps , volts etc) the horns will pull and put the same rated fuse into the line. You can find this either on the box or online.

well I first tried running the power off the battery and using the relay they provide.. but I think it restricts the power.. the hard part is powering it from another source means using a relay which results in power restriction.. its actually louder this way but like I said not as loud as it should be...

I will try to get my hands on a digi cam so I can take some pictures of what I did each time

No extra power or relays needed. You have 2 horn, your high and low. I put connectors on the 2 stock horn wires and ran 1 behind the upper grill in the bumper and the other down by the lower intercooler pipe.
