108K Service

Hey guys,

Need your advise. Last Saturday my dad took his 3year old Lancer SE'09 for 108K service to a dealer where he got charged $1238.46. I can understand that he might needed to change front brakes/rotors + brake fluid...but what is the rest? It's not an Evo for God's sake.
I can only add that he drives it very carefully, no mods obviously and followed service book schedule, however he paid for the previous 2 scheduled services $450 and $500.

Is it time to get rid from the car after 100K?

wtf throttle body service. really? was that really needed? Injector service is not worth it either. Run Shell 91 for about 5 cycles and you would have the same effect.

I only know that he told him that he needs new front brakes and since he is not advanced in cars I don't think he realized what was important or not... How come to change an $8 piece takes more than hour of labor?

It looks like all you needed was an oil change...but then they added on every "extra" maintenance service they could possibly add!

Oh...and were your brakes actually worn out?

I know.... wish I were there....

I just don't think it's fare to treat ppl like that who don't have a clue what those extras are.... Do we all need to get a mechanic certificate to be able to stand against those a*holes...
There is no one on a consumer side?

Woooooow. They took it to him like a little old lady. Its as if they were Rogers or Bell. LOL. They saw an opportunity and took it. I don't even think you have any recourse now. Remind me never to go to Mid-Toronto.

I've had dealings with that service advisor as well. He tried to tell me an alignment issue could be solved by a tire rotation. A proper alignment at Altech in Etobicoke showed how far out of spec I really was. Their previous service manager (Evan) was much better.

For pads and rotors, I've found the following internet wholesalers to be quite good. Free delivery on orders over $75:

that's... ridiculous!

i've never paid so much for any type of service! i would go back to the service department and speak to the service manager and ask him to itemize everything they did associating with the cost for each item. i did a type 'd' service in oakville mitsu 2 years ago (when they still existed) and they charged me $540 for it, i challenged them with their maintenance schedule pamphlet (as per attached [prices have since slightly changed]) and ask them to explain the descrepency. they themselves could not figure out why and at the end issued me a refund of $250.

from what i understand, the current cost for type 'd' service are $320 for manual trans, $360 for auto and $420 for cvt.

if you need to have your rotors/pads changed, they have a front oem kit (2rotors/2pads) for approx. $330. i paid $80 to have them put in by a local mechanic, instead of having the stealership charging $100/hr for 2 hours.

WOW you guys are getting ripped off......whenever I go to mitsu for oil changes I first ask them how much it is gonna cost me, then I ask for a discount or I'll never come back again. Works everytime and they can't screw you over cause they told you how much it would cost. Verbal agreement is just as legal as a written agreement.

most of the mitsubishi dealerships are criminal, i had some idiot from a dealership at steeles/yonge give me such a hard time after i first got the car, idiot kept trying to sell me different services when all i wanted was a oil change, he even threatened to tell me that my warranty would be void if i didnt do services for the brakes etc etc..that same dealership disappeared not too long after that...poor service can only get you so far

^ I was just there
the sales team for the most part appears to be the same

the only "new" people were bob and steph...but they're not the ones actually doing any work on the car...so i'm not concerned..
