Local place for SST fluid?

Hello all Evo/Ralliart drivers,

does anyone know of a local place where I can get either the Diaqueen SSTF or aftermarket variant locally? I have discovered a leak in the return hose from the transmission cooler. Hose removal obviously means losing fluid, which as everyone knows, means flushing the whole transmission. I'd rather not pay dealer cost of $50/L.

Any help is appreciated,

Matt.

I'd personally pay the extra cost for genuine Mitsu fluid rather than some unknown generic fluid that was designed to meet VW DSG spec. I'm sure some will say it's the same...but considering the cost of a SST transmission replacement I'd rather spend an extra hundred bucks for peace of mind.

Same here. Diaqueen fluid or bust.

True, but after much searching, I'm convinced its the same stuff. And its a savings of $240...

I had also found this thread, which shows that the SSTF-1 is the same as any other dual-clutch fluid for Getrag transmissions. I'm fairly confident I'll have no issues.

Let me know how it does with that fluid. I'm planning on doing mine in a month or two.

Why are people saying it isn't the same fluid when it has already been proven it is. I've been running this fluid for a few months and have had no issues. Checkout the sst tranny thread, there are a number of us who run it.

In terms of an independant shop, I would recommend Max Motorsport in Mississauga. They will either use your supplied fluid, or can order in from Mitsu.

Thave changed all the fluids in my Ralliart, and are familiar with the Evo. As well, they even caught the 'mistake' by Scarborough Mitsu, who said they changed the transfer oil, but didn't.

Alright, update.

I did my own flush, replaced the cooler hoses, and refilled with the Pentosin.

First thing I noticed, is that is runs much much smoother. This may actually be because the fluid was low due to the leak, and not just the oil itself. But either way, the car is shifting faster and smoother, and just overall a better experience. The money saved has been well worth it.

THAT SAID....it has started to leak again from the same spot. Any tips for sealing a hose? It is clamped, twice.

SST function is shift quality is very dependant on fluid levels, and without a dipstick or transparent resevoir tank, checking the level quickly isn't exactly easy. It took a fair amount of testing before I found the ideal fluid level for my car while participating in a thread on another board.

As for fixing a leak, there are several products on the market under different names that are similar to the following:

Care to share your results? In terms of amount of fluid used.

I pulled 10l out of mine, put in 6.5 then 7l and had improvements in shift smoothness. I'm leaning towards 7 is the magic number on a full drain + filter.

In my car, I have tried 7 and about 7.5l. My best results were with the highest fluid level.. Those are just my findings though.

Others found their cars like a little more, some a little less. This may be dependant on model year. In general I would say try first at around 7l, drive it, and add in 0.25l increments from there if shifting isn't ideal.
