Evan was cool to deal with and never told the other warranty cover about any mods. It never even came up.

As for them paying less for warranty this is false. They pay them $99/hour. I had to sign the bill and it was higher then it was quoted when i was paying myself. It was just over $1850 i believe for the timing chain alone.

I went in and took pictures of the chain they ordered and it was the new one. I also went back when they were installing it to make sure they didnt pull a fast one. Looks good. The scariest part about this process is I still dont know if there is any additional damage caused by the chain stretching. I have heard of it bending valves, etc. I asked if they could inspect for that and they said the process is to do the chain then start it up. Seems silly since it is already opened up.
Glad to hear Evan treated you well. He's a decent guy, and a superstar compared to jokers like Jeff.

In terms of vent valves, I can only speak in generalities, as I was more intimately familiar with the 5L V8 that was in my old car. For an interference engine, there is usually a small amount of tolerance for belt/chain stretch, before there is interference. Each engine being different in that tolerance naturally. Not having carbon buildup on the the valves or pistons certainly helps in maintaining that extra bit of room if something does go wrong. If the engine started up fine, that is usually an indicator all is well.

A compression test might be of value. If anyone is intimately familiar with the internals of the 4B11T, please chime in.

Well as luck would have it there were no bent valves and I got my car back.

Does anyone know what the break in period would be for a new chain?

I would take it easy for 1k miles. Just don't go over 5k rpms if you can help it. After that, go for it.

1000 miles ok. The tech told me that he soaked my chain in the oil for a whole day so said there really is no break in period. But of course the dealership gave the 1k warning as well.

I count myself as thankful for not having any warranty issues with my car! That said, I have posted before that the guys at Newmarket Mitsubishi are phenominal. Dean has worked hard on several occasions to save me money, even with an item that was slightly out of warranty.

From taking to them, they also seem pretty reasonable when it comes to mods. For example, they would know a cat-back exhaust would not in any way affect your timing chain. An improved intercooler isnt going to make your ACD blow up. Better brakes are better brakes, and change nothing in the drivetrain. It just makes sense.

Also...they wont inspect for a reflash unless they have a reason to. So, oil changes won't result in a voided warranty because of your GST/Cobb AP tune.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but it appears Mr. Friendly from Erin Mills is now a parts and service distract manager at Mitsu Canada. Slimy SOB. No doubt his reporting of supposed warranty violations added in his promotion.

Are you kidding me SOB!! What a douche. I guess it don't matter considering Mitsu is pulling out of Canada anyways. Probably due to the sh!tty customer service they provide.
