Ive tried searching the board for a specific response on 264 cams. I found something close to what i was looking, but not close enough.
Anyhow, where do 264's place the power band?

You'll sacrifice 4 HP on the topend to gain 10 TQ in the middle. This won't hold true for all cars but you get the idea.
This is compared with the 272's. Compared to stock, it's stronger on top, middle, everywhere. With the benefits of a better idle over 272s, they are a no brainer, IMO.

if you refer back to my "case study #425687935147B"
you will remember the graph that was posted from HKS website which shows that the 264's put out more torque than the 272's.

Retarding the cams moves the power peak later in the power band, not earlier.
The 264 set gives a bit more midrange and a little bit less up top as compared to a 272 set when both sets are compared as installed straight up. However, when one widens the lobe separation angle with the 272 set via cam gears, it makes up the difference in midrange torque *and* gives even a bit more power up top.
In any case, if you want to just toss them in and go without gears or the benefit of dyno tuning, the 264 set is definitely the better choice.

To each their peference and choice but more HP for drag top end and more torque for street. It'll be nice to have both.
I have 272/272 and with support the car idles great. Your RPM shoots so fast to redline you won't have time to notice any additonal torque on the midrange.

And please note that with 264's your RPMs slowly crawl up.
Seriously, though, if you drive on the street, there is really not a lot more top end power you are going to make, mod for mod, with the 272's. And with both idles corrected, the 264's will idle better, correction for correction.
It is easier to make streetable usable power with the 264's all else equal.

once again the 264's shine in the horsepower area also!!!
