Reccomended upgrade path

I plan, in the near future, to begin an upgrade path for my 03 EVO that will get me to 400 flywheel hp (or close to it) with as much streetability as possible.

Recently, TurboTrix has begun to get my attention, mostly due to great word-of –mouth feedback from satisfied customers. Unfortunately, I have not been able to learn much from the website—it doesn’t even mention the reflash service.

I am very curious as to what combination of parts, in your experience, have been successful in conjunction with your reflash. Obviously, at this point you have some advice to impart to us, the potential customer. For the sake of clarity, I would like to compare Vishnu’s well-documented and elaborated approach with your own thoughts/experience.

· First, what cam set-up would you recommend for a street-sorted vehicle. From what I understand, Shiv recommends the HKS 264/272 set-up along with the cam gears. Have you found success with this set-up, or would you recommend the straight 264 combo. And if so, would the gears be of any benefit?

· Vishnu warns to stick with the stock airbox, but I have noticed that several of your customers have been tuned with an open-element filter, such as the HKS RS Kit. Has this posed any problems? If not, what are the benefits (besides the bling-bling)?

· What means of altering boost have worked well with your reflash? Is an MBC sufficient? If so, what is the suggested PSI?

· Would you recommend a fuel pump to go along with these mods? if so, why?

Presently, I only have a 3 inch catless TBE installed and need some advice on where to go next. I know I have a lot of questions, but I would appreciate some feedback(knowledgeable TT customers feel free to chime in as well).

Hey..

Cam combo i would recommend the 264/272 combo. Def works great on the daily driven evos. As far as cam gears, save your money, i've found with the hks cams a zero zero setting works best. Stock cams with gears are a big diff story. Air filter i've always ran open air filter with the stock plastic funnel to the intake. Works great , never had a prob. Fuel pump a must. Boost , 22 psi with a catless exhaust system. All of this + our flash, should net you about 320-345 on pump depending on gas ect.

Thanks for the quick response.

I'm not sure I understand the above explanation. You keep the intake but cut the airbox off? Then you install a cone filter?

Is the idle ok without gears with the HKS 264/272 set-up?

The 264/272 setup purrs like a kitten. Very close to stock. I have 264's, but a friend of mine is pusing the aforementioned setup and has seen some nice results.

Good info. I've heard similar feedback about TT and I'm leaning that way as well.

I have a Helix catback on the way to complete my 3" tb with RT hf cat.

I plan to get the mail-in flash for my bday in April.

Quick question, would there be a benefit or a chance in the mail-in reflash if I got the Helix O2 housing in April as well?

I don't think cams are in my immediate future, but my goal is def 300+ dynojet awhp if possible and a car capable of 105-110 traps, does that seem likely on 93 octane with tbe, mbc, and fuel pump? Any other bolt-ons to consider that would be beneficial?

Thanks,

Just a few follow up questions related to my original post:

Will the car still be smooth and daily-driveable with an MBC? What brand does TT and its customers prefer?

Is 340 whp about 400 at the flywheel?

Is the general concensus then, that gears are not necessary on a 264/272 st-up?

Hey Turbo Trix

I plan on going with a cams after this winter is done, probably in spring or early summer. Im also looking for that magic 340 - 350whp range. I want the 264/272 setup. My question is how important is it to upgrade the IC piping?

The mods I have on the car now is AEM intake, RMR full turbo back, Perrin Cat delete, Walbro Fuel Pump, Hallman Boost control, and a Reflashed ECU. I have put down300whp/300 tq on a Dynojet on a hot humid day with no fan.

I just want to know what you guys recommend . I want to keep the Evo streetable it is my daily driver. I don't want to go the stand-alone route. If you could PM me with what I need to do and a ball park figure of how much it would cost that would be great. ALso all the essential parts that I would need.

Thank you for your time.

340 whp with race gas. Maybe 325 w/o. MBC will not efftet driveability. Hallman is always a good choice. TT is a great choice. My car has similiar mods to what you talked about and I made 325 on 93 pump with their flash.

Thanks gestalt for the reply.

I assume then that you have the 264/272 cams, and MBC set to 22 PSI? I am running catless right now.

I was concerned about MBC drivability because an MBC on my Subaru WRX made it too darty (plus there were concerns about a part throttle full boost condition causing overheating).

By the way, Vishnu claims 390 flywheel hp for his stage one plus cams.

I have a forge MBC and I can only get full boost (23 psi) when Im at 80-100% throttle. If I'm at 50% throttle or so, it will boost nicely, but never full boost.
