my result!!!

guys,

I appreaciated all your inputs and I'll post my result from TT today. Here are my mods todate including today's at TT:

- custom flash at TT
- injen intake w/ lower ic pipe
- hallman mbc at 21lbs
- full turbo-back w/ rigged mid pipe w/ magnaflow 3" hi-flow cat and 3" core resonator, replaced of 2.5" flange w/ 3" flange
- HKS ssq bov
- HKS 272/272
-walbrow 255

My best pull on Dynotech was 299whp and 299tq. To tell the truth, I was expecting 10% more but still noticable improvement. Mark sweated out some two hours on the dyno and I certainly appreciated his work. He pointed the shortfall to the cat. But I noticed great improvement after the 3" cat over the stock cat prior to TT. My car now pull beyond 4K w/ linear pwr delivery.

I decided to not use a testpipe for it's disadvantage. So I'm thinking maybe the resonator I just welded yesterday is overly restrictive?

Funny thing was I met up w/ another local 03' evo fellow owner while at TT and he had similar setup w/ the exception of cam gears. And he dynoed 325whp peak?
I don't get it. Anyone have insight to this?

See below for dyno result.

that doesnt sound right...I've seen guys with downpipe,3'all the way down with straight pipe, intake, and boost at 21 hitting 300+. Maybe the cams aren't tuned right? slight angle off could be a difference.

well I don't have testpipe and that was the primary reason they sighted.

my AFR was steady at 11.5.

don't people run w/ cats at all w/ flash or am I an exception to this???

thats the thing....TT should know how to tune them right i would assume. You don't just put cams in and thats it. I really not to sure too much as I just got the evo, but on the s2000 i had, the wrong adjustment and it slower than stock.

Hmm, that seems low. I got the same basic mods like you do on my 03, the only differences are I have hks 264s instead of 272s, and I do not have a cat. I got the Fujitsubo 2.75 dp and cat back which have 2 resonators in it. Same dyno at TT and with Marks tuning, I got close to 340hp and tq w/ 93oct and 350hp/ tq with 100oct. You might want to check to see if you have any leaks.

Kevo ..

your car is a freak of nature .. You def have one of those evos... As far as the car in question, the cat he was using just wasnt working. I had to keep turning the boost down, the back pressure was excessive causing knock. The 272's with a bad cat doesnt work. I ended up pulling timing and it prob cost him 20 - 25 whp.. Yes the car before him made 325 .. maybe a better cat, diff setup .. He was running 2more lbs of boost as well. Might of had bad gas on top of the ****ty cat .. If your going to get a cat ..i would get the random tech cat .. Its the best one out there

Mark,
I'll be updating to random cat along w/few other adjustments and will be back for your retune.

You said you had to turn my boost down yet I found 21-22lb boost setting on the hallman that you installed. Am I ok with this high boost setting and how do I know if I'm not getting more knocks?

thanks again.

chu ..

Alot of times its diff on the dyno to the street by a pound or two.. I would set it at 20 ( where it was tuned ) , get the other cat .and then go back up to 21 / 22 ..

GET RID OF THE CAT!!! Seriously you want big power up top this is how you do it.

Also look to replace the stock LOWER IC pipe, those two mods alone will help alot.
