question about tuning

At full throttle my boost peaks at 23 and holds at 20 the timing is at 7-8 does this sound normal the timing part because i have (HKS 272 int/ext, headers, down pipe, full greddy TI turbo back exhaust, 720 injectors, IC upper/lower piping, greddy BOV, HKS racing suction intake, Afc II, halman boost control) well back to the question. I pulled horrible numbers 279 whp, Air fuel was perfect a flat lie all the way across at 12.3. the car was warmed up correctly everything hooked up right the boost peaked at 23 held at 20. one of the guys hook a monitor up to the car don’t know what kind (snap on) to check if there were problems He told me the timing was WAY off it was at 7-8 at full (boost or throttle cant remember which one). But ive herd that is normal so the question is could this be fixed with a reflash, re tune, or do i need to have them look into it more, im hoping this is a easy fix not to much money. if anyone can help i would be very grateful

12.3 is about 1 point too lean, you want to see about 11.2-11.6 depending on gas and how far you want to push.

7-8 isn't extremely horrible, but I would think that car would see 10 degrees at peak boost and then accend to 17-20 by redline.

Where did you have the car tuned? At turbotrix? If you did, they don't let cars roll off the dyno that lean, so you might have an issue somewhere.

More specifics please.

Type of gas
who was tuning
what was used to log
etc.

The injectors and afc should be gaining you more timing than without. 12.3 for these cars is a little lean for a safety margin, but as long as your not knocking that would give you more timing.

I think 4TUN8 is a little off in the peak boost timing numbers, Im not sure where you would be with your afc+injectors BUT I've datalogged stock evos and found out first hand that around peak boost (3500) there is little to no timing at all (somewhere between -2 and +2 deg.) I think dynoflash does 8 degrees for a large portion of the timing map in that cell region (which is why people gain a lot more midrange torque from the flash)

As you approach redline you should be steadily increasing until 19-21 degrees, if youre actually running 7-8 degrees when you should be running 19-21 then thats obviously a huge problem.

I could make a guess that if you are running timing that low, the knock sensor must be sensing something. The other possibility is that you are running the car into the low octane maps which are hurting performance. If it isn't the knock sensor picking up activity or because of the low octane map, maybe but doubtfully something mechanical is wrong.

A base flash will yield much better results IMO for you to tune ontop of with your afc, find out exactly what the guy told you about your timing and report back

well i had Al at dyno flash flash it last time and was thinking about trying turbo trix the AFR was averaged out at 12.3 min was 11.6 max was 15.2 it was street tuned and on 93 oct
on a mustang dynamometer do you think that a reflash will help should i start there and go on what happens after that or should i not wast my time and let the shop have it

thanks for the help
