Thanks Dave.

As part of the arrangement I made sure that I would still be able to support the community.

As such there is a 6 month delay between when Cobb gets it and when it is released to the OS community..

I think that is really unfortunate on a few levels.

Apparently people weren't contributing when they should have been. That is the real loss here. If they were contributing, there wouldn't have ever been a need for this partnership.

The other loss here is, once again big business is taking away from the open source community and using it to their advantage.

The last thing to take away here, we failed as an open community to where so much relied on one person. If tephra was hit by a bus, we'd be hosed.

EDIT: By contributing I mean paying tephra what he deserves.

Congrats David, I'm glad you are happy with the partnership!

One question though:

Will ultimate maps be considered prior to the contract or will i have to wait an additional 6+ months for that?

Damn man, I offered $20 for this by April.

I also wonder if contributions weren't up to par from the open source community.

As far as the big business thing, I don't worry to much about it. Everyone will still select what is right for them.

well, thats what the Accessport needed... the lack of additional functionality is what had us doing primarily open source.

Look at the small list of contributors on the TephraXMOD V1 thread vs. the number of people who are using it; I don't blame Dave at all, I too would want to get paid for all my hard work. Also note one of the largest contributors is now also a Cobb employee.

I personally am looking forward to this since it will give me back the features I miss from when I was tuned with Tephra mods.

Congrats!

For all those naysayers, enthusiasts need to realize that at some point an automotive hobby can become much more - a fully paying passion (and job).

I have sent a few donations, not even worth mentioning I'm sure. You were, absolutely, under paid for what you have done for all of us. I typically sent a donation when I downloaded something new and haven't done that or kept up on the stock ECU tuning like I should have.

I do hope now you are making a good living and being compensated for all your hard work and intelligence, you deserve that, that is for sure!
