Yeah, getting some sort of EMS later down the road is much more practical, but a base flash now was perfect...
If people cannot afford an Xede, then go with Al's flash. But if you can afford it, then why not go with an Xede. It is/was $750 on sale installed plus one hour of dyno tuning to get custom tuned maps.

If you do not want custom maps, you can download conservative maps from Shiv's website for a lot of combinations and for 91, 93, or 100 octane gas. You do not have to figure it out yourself.

It is really not that hard to use. I have already modified my boost maps with no problems.

It has launch control, data logging, Alky control, boost control and many other facets that I do not remember off the top of my head. The unit has a lot more potential for growth than a flash, but it does cost more.

Finally, it is plug and play. Your ECU remains unmolested. If you have to take your car to the dealer, simply take the unit off and go to the dealer. On 05 and up EVOs the flash is detectable by the dealer. You will have to send your unit back to Al to flash it to stock and then have to send it back again for another flash after your visit to the dealer.

Again, to each his own. If you cannot afford an Xede, then go with a flash. I can afford one and that is what I got.

Xede sound pretty interesting. I need to do a little bit of research before I decide to do a reflash.

Yes, the Xede is nice, but the part about an unmolested ECU is just the party line. You can count on 1 hand how many people have actually HAD to send their ECU back to get flashed to stock just for a dealership issue. Is it technically detectable on 05/06s? Yes. Has anyone ever reported a dealership trying to find one, then actually finding it, then doing something negative because of it? No, so it's not an actual worry.

They aren't usually $750 including installation and an hour of dyno tuning. That's a rare and special price that I agree is very nice. Usually, it's much more.

The $750 is for the Xede only. Dyno tuning is $165 extra for one hour. I know I made it seem that it was a package deal. My mistake.

I agree that it does not happen often for a dealer to check your ECU for a flash, but given Mitsu's history of finding any reason to deny warranty claims, I would rather be safe than sorry. Also, the flash removes the boost limiter and increases the rev limiter something that I did NOT want to do. I like these safety feaures left in the ECU. If a flashed car is taken to the dealer with these changed, Mitsu will more than likely find cause for denying warranty work on your engine.

In the end it is really a matter of what you can afford and future plans for your car. If you can afford the Xede and want a piggy back that has multiple maps that you can use as you add mods, then the Xede is really good.

What about Xede with 95 octane gas mixed with 20% ethanol? The gas here in Brazil is like that, it is mixed with alcohol to decrease the price of gas (half of the cars in Brazil use only alcohol as fuel, no gas) so I did some mods on my car and was wondering between dynoflash, Xede, or an aftermarket ECU. The mods I did are on my signature, but the ECU still stock. You think Xede can come up with some maps for such a diferent type of fuel?

Any ideas?

No, the 255s won't spin more than my Blizzaks. Thanks for the tip, though.
Exuse me, say what? I distinctly remember trying to tell you that a flash was superior to the AFC a while back, and you wanted no part in believing that.

I doubt that a flash will work well for your fuel as the dynoflash or other flash is not specific to a single car and your car is different then a 91oct or 93 oct us car. Like wise some cars with a dynoflash will run better then others not all cars are the same.

Yes, the SAFC is great on top of the flash. I've always said that, ptevo3. It is not great by itself, though. I'd use one instead of paying $650 for an EcuTek, but not before paying $175-199 for a Dynoflash.

NJ, again, you're giving me the party line. You do know that a flash can include or exclude anything you want it to, right? You don't have to change the rev limiter, you don't have to change the launch limiter, you don't have to change anything. It's all up to you. I don't know what a boost limiter is (never heard of that), though.

It's not a matter of what you can afford at all. I can afford a Xede or even an AEM EMS, but I'd rather get much more for MY money by getting a flash + cams instead of just a Xede. That's just an example, and it only applies to me. I can also afford an Injen Intake and Fujitsubo exhaust, but I'd rather just get a drop-in filter or Buschur intake for $60-80 then a Buschur or Megan exhaust and use the rest of the money on cams or alky. For me, it's all about going faster for my money...

Hey Xede fans, maybe it would be polite to let this satisfied customer have his moment in the limelight without arguing. He just wants to say he's happy. Let him do so.

boost limiter aka maf cut.

obviously afc on top of a flash is better than either by themselves....but you argued to the death that you would rather have the afc than a flash....now you have pulled a switcharoo. no biggie, id pretend id changed my mind even if i didn't for some free flashes.
