flashed by AMS (result)

I just got tuned this morning by AMS this morning.
The car is almost a completely a different car.
I picked up almost 50lb of torque and about 30 whp.

The car base run was 280 hp and 258 torque.

Final result was 309 whp and 305 torque.

The car just pulls and pulls.
Boost peaks around 1.7bar and settles down @ around 1.5bar.
I am assuming this is because the stock gauge reads kinda higher than it is ??.

My car is almost stock with a exception of TBE and MBC,
Stock airbox and everything else untouched.

I am another satisfied AMS customer.

Great job AMS

Thanks guys.

The only thing I am just a little bit concerned is the peak boost of almost 1.7bar.
I forgot to ask Martin or Chris if that is the actual boost reading or it's reading higher than it is due to crappy stock gauge.

Thanks for the comment/suggestion War.

I believe their dyno reads slightly lower but like you said it's debatable.
I think the tune is on par with other evo 9's tuned at AMS with just simple bolt ons.
BTW, the numbers were SAE corrected numbers.

Nevertheless, I am happy with the results.

For comparison my IX MR was tuned by AMS on the same dyno with a
TBE and MBC and a fuel pump. I finished with 340 whp and 328 wtq. That was on 93 oct and 93 degrees outside. My hp numbers were actually higher but they backed it off a little to be safe.

My base numbers were 332 whp and 289 wtq with a Dynoflash Eflash.

I forgot to ask- are you using a cat or a test pipe? My numbers are with a Helix test pipe.

I am using a high flow cat so the difference in hp is reasonable.

What was your boost setting at?

I'd say the difference is in the cat. My boost is just about where you described. It's off the MR gauge by quite a bit. Probably in the 1.7 range on the initial spike then it tapers off to somewhere around 1.6 bar.

The guys at AMS said that my car was the strongest IX they had seen. It was able to take any amount of timing that you wanted to throw at it and never backed it off. I am guessing that I have what could be considered somewhat of a factory freak.

My SAE adjusted numbers were 354 whp and 341 wtq. The SAE factor was 1.04 during my dyno run.

wow, it does seem like you have a factory beast.

Well, as long as you are running about the same boost I am not concerned.
I just sent an email to AMS regarding the boost level to see if it was a mistake.

My SAE corrections were 1.0.

The dyno graph looks pretty good on my sheet.
I don't have a scanner so I can't post em up.

Best regards.

I kind of figured my IX was special. When it had only 800 miles on it and was bone stock it pulled repeatedly on my Cobb stage 2 STi. The Cobb stage 2 package includes a 3" tbe and an ECU flash which also turned up the boost from 14 psi to 18 psi. And still the IX could pull on the STi without a problem.

19psi, IXs can run that kind of boost on 93oct - it's not a problem, especially since it was custom tuned and logged (presumably) during the tuning to ensure no knock.
thanks for pointing that out war.
I feel much better now that it can run that much boost safely.

I should've asked before I left AMS but I was in a hurry since I had to get back to work.

Wartalon, Max-Q did not confirm your comments. I think you have some brains right? If so then follow your logic. His car is not a stage 1 car (it has a TBE) and he's one case. Your comments say that typical results yield 330-350whp. If you look he had a TBE, which also includes a downpipe. His 340whp was the highest we've seen, not a typical result. Typical would have been 315-325whp on my dyno.
Max-Q, where your only mods a TBE & our custom flash? I thought you had a LICP or something like that?
