CBRD dynotest, perrin new intake!!

In an earlier post you mentioned you somewhat know why or have a theory on why this filter works better or the other ones don't. Could I take a shot at it and perhaps get your feedback? Something that always bothered me about these cone filters is the fact that the "straight" path to the maf sensor (or intake tube) is completely blocked off. Leaving the air to come from nowhere but all the sides of the filter. In which case, the air that comes through needs to make a sharp turn before going through the maf. And I am sure this creates lots of undirected turbulence. (pardon my terminology) To me, this would create erratic readings. One thing I noticed about the perrin is that its a completely open element all the way around in which air sucked through the center could go straight through the maf and create a better reading. I noticed that alot of intakes arent like that, except the HKS suction looks like it is, and I like the fact that the filter is replaceable every 5k, which would keep me in check instead of having to oil a filter all the time. <---yes a run-on sentence. Anyhow, I may have not read every single post on here, but did you do a head to head test on the perrin vs. the HKS suction? Thanks for any info.

i never tested the HKS, we have rarely a single client that uses them.
You are correct on your thoughts of why it works... there is also an internal screen in the perrin filter and the cut's in the screen angle inward toward the maf... also very nice..
plain and simple... it just works.

this will work with aftermarket piping either with some small modification to the heat shield or buying a maf adapter.
these pics are of the whole intake set up on an 06 with the ets short route kit and of the piece i cut off the heat shield to get it to fit. ( before i found out i just could have bought the adapter)

the other thing you can do is redrill the two mounting holes... that works well also.

Did you dyno this with just the filter? If not how much do you think just the filter will make? I have an ets intake and don't want to buy anthoner intake pipe but the filter I wouldn't mind replacing.
I purchased the Perrin intake and got it in. Everything looks great. One thing though, that bothered me, and many other companies do this as well, so its not a flame towards Perrin. But, why do all these manufacturers insist on using just regular nuts (in this case for the maf to heat shield) instead of locking nuts. With all the vibrations in the engine bay, one would think that these nuts over time would loosen. I mean, there werent even any lock washers included. Just a heads up to the vendors out there. I spend lots of money on parts for my GN and EVO and lots of times I just have to end up replacing the nuts with nylon locking nuts for piece of mind. I recommend it if you are purchasing this intake.
