GOOD i was starting to get pissed i was lied to about them. SO the undercut are better then regulars but not as good as l19 (good meaning in strength)

Tensile strength (as in thestrength when a force exerted when a metal breaks) is relatively unrelated to the world of a head stud, where a couple thousandths of stretch mean head gasket failure eventually. Lots of people will fill their coolant overflow for a few months before blowing a head gasket. does this make headstuds necessary at all? that's up to the owner to debate. I made over 400 HP for almost 80,000 miles with the stock head BOLTS. Like mike@AWD said, the best available parts might not be absolutely necessary, but using the best insures the best results. It's up to the educated consumer to make the decision past that.

Yep. The undercut stud sets are just not as commonly stocked or compared, but they have more uniform stretch, as the description from ARP details. They were not mentioned in the start of this thread because they were not "ultra high" strength studs, which were all that was compared here...

The combination of stretch and tensile strength properties is what differentiates the various head stud sets available.

I'm not sure that tensile strength is even relevant. I don't know anyone who's broken a head stud. however, if anyone could find stretch test results from these various alloys VS. what an undercut in the thread could mean, this would be extraordinary. I would have no Idea where to look or if it's even tested, however, so I'll leave that to more experienced posters.

That should do the trick sir, if your block is machined with a torque plate at the same torque you could bump that up a bit if you desire...

I would use them in anything that will see over 600hp to the wheels simply for insurance purposes...

HP doesnt dictate stud choice IMO.. Type of fuel, Turbo type and boost level is what i make a judgement on.. Everyone has their own opinion of course..

I had been scratching my head trying to figure out how a dogpoint stud could possibly matter. I hadn't considered that a standard stud would be threaded to the point running out of thread.

They aren't needed as long as head doesn't lift and pressure puts a nice torch mark on your fancy head. Some people say reg arps strech from taking them on and off. They call them disposible studs.Ive re used them on Toyota engines a bunch of times never had a problem.Well until the end of last season where car over boosted and torched head gasket.
