MAP Turbo Issues...
Alright guys, guess I just want to weigh in on what some people think of this issue.
Bought a MAP EF3 ~1 year ago. Loved the turbo. Couple weeks ago, lost all power, take it to Strictly Modified, turbo is literally destroyed. I'm 6 days out of my warranty - call MAP, thankfully they were cool and honored my warranty.
Pictures of the turbo attached.
Now I guess here is where it gets interesting. I understand the turbo was defective (look at the pics and I'm sure there isn't really a way from using this EF3 that I could have accomplished this). And they DID replace it (with a 'rebuilt' turbo, not exactly what I wanted to have....). But pieces of metal from the turbo are distributed all through my intercooler (tried washing it out, didn't work). Diagnostics to make sure that my engine wasn't blow cost me a good chunk of change. Labor to remove/install is ~$300.00. I guess long story short is the collateral damage of their defective turbo was pretty massive. I understand it isn't really their duty to fix what happened because there are entirely too many variables. They have worked with giving me discounts on some other parts....but at the end of the day I'm still stuck with a rental car bills (car has been at the shop since 12/15/14) and a large bill for costs I didn't expect to pay.
Honestly, MAP did do their part in replacing my turbo, even with the turbo out of warranty by 6 days, which was awesome. At this point I know I'm going to be footing the bill for everything else, and I suppose that is the risk I take for owning a car like this. I guess if anything this can just be an informative post for someone who takes the turbo-replacement route. I'm still shopping at MAP so they have retained my business. Just not sure if I'll continue to run their turbos.
What would other vendors do in a scenario like this?

i think you did as good as could be hoped for replacement cost. perhaps the bigger questions are why did it fail, and if it can't be attributed to user error (likely oil sarvation due to any number of reasons, or improper oil selection), do you really want to install another?
I agree. They are helping me get a discount on an IC which is awesome too. Just sucks that the defective turbo put me in this spot to begin with; but I assume this is better customer service than most.

Problem is, I don't have any more time to wait without a car. I'm forced to put this turbo back on my car
**unless someone wants to buy it!!** hahaha.

Map's done what most vendors would not do. most would not replace the turbo if out of warranty period. plus they gave you some discount on new parts too. collateral damage is unfortunate mate..but part of the game i suppose.
I've heard some people having issues when they first came out but I think they've worked through the kinks. Most people say they love them. I absolutely loved mine until this happened. Hoping it was a freak accident and the new turbo installed will be just fine. You'll make damn good #'s with this. On e85 @25 psi I made 494/387.
Yep, thats the truth. I can't expect them to pay the collateral damage as much as I was upset about it. Got my ETS FMIC through them anyway and they helped me out big time with the price. They absolutely kept my business. Being realistic they did do all that they could, for that I am grateful!
