Stage 1+ 264/272 timing?

I just had my HKS 264/272 and Vishnu cam gears installed by RRE. I had them set at -2/-2 after reading some posts on the forums, and RRE recommended -2/-2 also. But the Vishnu website says -3/-3, is it OK to run the baseline map I downloaded from your website?

From what I'm reading, -2/-2 should shift the powerband slightly lower than -3/-3 right?

I'm running -2/-2 as well and would like to know this too.

There should be no problems because I had the -3,-3 settings @ first, but changed it later to -4,-1.

Advancing both cams simultaneously will create more cylinder pressure earlier, which will cause the turbo to spool ever so slightly sooner. The compromise here is a slight drop in power at the very high edge of the power curve, but if the cam set has enough duration, this may be negligible.

Also, creating higher cylinder pressure earlier increases the chances of encountering preignition.

I'm running 264i/272e at -4/-1, idles like stock. What i did notice is that my vacuum is back to stock 20-21 inhg and low speed take off and diveability in stop and go rush our traffic was improved.

A split setting like -4/-1 reduces overlap, which reduces low speed cylinder pressure, improves idle, causes the turbo to spool slightly later, and tends to increase top end power a little bit.

My idle is a bit lumpy at -2/-2 but then again I have an old firmware on the xede. I'm considering trying -4/-1, but I'm not familiar with how to adjust the gears. Do I loosen one bolt at a time or all 5 at a time?

Is the one near the firewall intake and the one near the front bumper exhaust? Also which direction (counter or clockwise) is retard and advance?

put a 17 mm wrench on the center nut and undo all 5 allen screws....
The one near the firewall is the intake
to retard the intake a further 2 degrees from your current setting rotate the center nut counter clockwise
and of course to advance the exhaust, rotate clockwise 1 degree from it's current location.
the cam may flick depending on location when you undo the allen screws so understand the position of the cam before you undo
Hope this helps
Andrew
