25 hour update
Good Luck!!!,
Thx for the update via the link to the article.
In the mean time, it sounds like the rollcage ***** are at it again. Hmmm...I actually wonder if some of these rollcage wizards would consider taking some rough measurements, and crash data, and actually making a ligit software program to do some loading and strength analysis.
Obviously nobody, including myself, wants to compromise on safety, but the number of nit-pickys that pop up at the last mintue seems to be an inspector's favorite thing to do sometimes.
Let the red beasty fly!
Good Luck again!

According to C&D updates on their webpage. The evo lost its power stearing. Turned out it was because a pulley bearing seized and shredded the serpentine belt. They got it all fixed but now are 1.5 hrs behind the pack.
Somebody bring them Power Enterprise or Greddy belts!
I used to wonder if it was ever really neccessary for stronger belts that Power Enterprise and Greddy offer. Exposer to heat under longer than usual times of use must be fatiguing it.

Welder Eric Haynes saved C/D’s collective rear end by performing miraculous emergency welding early Saturday morning. Whaddaya pay for miracle welds these days? Just this: need welding in a hurry? Call Diablo Valley Mechanical in Concord, California.

After an overnight engine swap, Team DB Motorsports had someone inside the engine compartment as smoke poured from some undisclosed location — undisclosed because the photographer dared not ask. About 2pm, the ’99 Monte Carlo took to the track, relieving C/D’s Evo of last place.

A photographer, who shall remain unnamed but whose initials are MS, saved C/D’s front end by casually enquiring, as the car sat on the pre-grid minutes from the start, whether the transpoder — a device essential to recording lap times and without which a car is not scored — was on. Not only was it not on, it was not on the car.

With only 24 hours and 25 minutes remaining, C/D’s Evo took an off-road tour when an accessory belt broke, robbing driver Gerrard of power steering, water pump, and several heartbeats.

But what surprises me the most is that the bearing should NOT have seized so early on...we're talking just 30minutes into the race. I'm sure the track junkies would agree with me on this. A typical track even is usually b/w 20-30minute of lapping with 4-5 runs for each group. I have yet to hear someone with a seized bearing even after a day of pounding. I have a feeling that the part was bad to begin with.
Anything can happen in a 25hr race so lets see.
Quote from C&D
"A quick inspection revealed that the Mitsu’s accessory drive belt had shredded itself, thus disabling the power steering pump and, more important, the cooling system. To make it worse, the drive belt for this modified Mitsu wasn’t a standard Mitsubishi part, and the nearest spare was at the very helpful Napa store in not-so-nearby Willows, seven miles away.
While a messenger sped off to obtain the drive belt, a more careful inspection revealed that one of the pulleys involved in the belt’s serpentine loops had a seized bearing and was, technically speaking, toast.
Fortunately, a spare for this item was available at the track. Unfortunately, it was attached to another Mitsubishi."
