It all came together so late that we ran out of time. We did have a six-hour run planned but were missing too many mission critical pieces to do it. Such a shame because in this case the testing would have revealed the problem. Sometimes you are forced to roll the dice...and this time "snake eyes"

Hmm. What about an underdrive pulley-- did you add one of those? Sort of a longshot...

There are still plans for the EVO. But nothing definite yet. I don't think the C&D guys have given up on it yet. It's got the speed to win and everyone knows it!

Not really a long shot. Un-damped underdrive pulleys are a definite no-no.

People have cracked crankshafts because they used one.

Thanks! I made those with the expert welding of Larry the fabricator. It took a long time so I don't know if they will be sold ($$$). They are made of aluminum are quite light and very strong since it's all one piece. How strong you ask? Larry Webster hit and spun a car he was passing directly on the canards and only put a small ding in on of the support uprights. They are very functional, the car was much more planted and quicker through the fast stuff and the lap times proved it.

is this the black thing underneath the bumpers? how much if you're gonna sell it? I saw that in the supercar shootout from C&D

It looks great and I am sure it performs in an amazing way as well. Would you care or Shiv to post close up pictures. I don’t like body kits but these look amazing.

Hi Shiv and Co
After thinking about these steering pump faliures and asking others in the know...please consider this theory and check it out as it seems to make sense.

If somehow a foriegn particle had got into the power steering fluid during the build or before you obtained the MR...and the partical or component was unable to pass through the pump but instead upon reaching the pump locked the impeller destroyed the belt and maybe other pulleys with the shock of a dead lock up and then fell back down the intake pipe...If this is the case the particle or object would probably be quite heavy and only lift up the hydraulic intake pipe when high rpms were reached....this would also alow it to drop back down the pipe out of view when the pits were reached.
This maybe would explain why several pumps were used over the 25 hours...and all met the same fate. this would also explain why belts and an idler pulley were also damaged no matter what belt configuration was used.

Before stripping the motor I would first flush the power steering system and inspect all components, including the rack, thoroughly into a clean bucket and inspect the fluid carefully...disassemble the damaged PS pumps to inspect for consistent damage between the three pumps....

The theory of harmonic resonance seems unlikely as I feel the motor would have had to have been at a steady rpm for a prolonged period for damage to occur in this way and if this were the case the problem surely would have shown itself within the engine, rods crank ect before it would have effected the ancillaries...

Not being argumentative Shiv but just wanted to throw another angle out there

Thanks for the feedback Andrew. Everything you say is certainly possible. However, the foreign particle that you are suggesting would have had to be there from the start since we never opened up the power steering system prior to the race. The reason I keep falling back on the harmonic issue is that the failures seemed to move upstream as we strengthened things downstream. We fully intend to tear everything apart once we conduct a post morten on the power steering and AC units to see whether the damage is contained the pulley itself or extends within the core. And yep, the car is (and always has) run a factory harmonic damper.

Thanks again, ask David or Dustin to post them up.

No, that's the too flimsy splitter that we will replace with a real one soon...
