Xede Question
Xede Question
Hey, im a noob to the Xede and am looking around for a Piggy-Pack of some kind and was wondering if it is the Xede itself that changes the timing or the cam gears and the settings that i would get that would be doing that.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
The short answer is the XEDE takes the origional electrical signal from the camshaft sensor and modifies it (advance or retard) for ignition timing.
Another really important signal the XEDE remaps is the MAF sensor. This is a sensor that tells the computer how much air is entering the system, and hence the computer will put x amount of fuel for combustion.
Any mechanical advance or retard on the actual cams is done through setting some cam gears.
Hope that helps,
jcnel.

Not that it really matters here, just FYI.
im also looking into the xede what are the gains over just the vishnu flash? also is it controllable and tuneable by a pc or what? is it capable of doing everything that the sat utec does? thanks
o and another thing it would b completly worthless to go with a safc due to the xede being able to do everything + what a safc would do?

in short... UTEC is a full fledged ECU replacement... XEDE is a piggyback... And to answer your question, an ecu flash is just a flash... anytime your upgrade, you need to reflash... There's no switching maps with a flick of a button or anything like that. With the XEDE, yes, you can switch between multiple maps... Advantage with a ECU flash, remove speed governor, and raising redline. Advantage with XEDE, being able to switch between multiple maps, plug and play, completely reversable to stock and more parameters to play with... You can read more in depth details on those links...

From what I can tell, if you want just the xflash thats what you get. The xede is a tunable unit. If you get different mods you can change the map, with the x -flash I believe you would have to be reflashed. I think its best to get both. I could be mistaken but I think you can get both for $100 more than the xede. The xflash raises the rev limiter where the xede does not. I got the xede because I knew I would be getting more mods over time.

i mainly was wondering the purpose to it i mean if you have to get a reflash for new upgrades but u also have to get the xede retuned for new upgrades then i figured it was basically the same..... unless u yourself was retuning the xede

I stand corrected.

I don't have an exede yet...but will be getting one soon. I believe you only send your ECU into Vishnu once if you want the flash to have your rev limit raised, max boost pressure raised, and maybe your top speed? Anyways that's a one time flash and does not require sending in your ECU everytime you get a new upgrade. The only way you would have to do something like that is if you simply had the Xede maps flashed directly onto the ECU. In this case you don't buy the exede because you have basically opted to not have the flexibility to tune your car. But if you do get the Exede the only time you would ever have to actually send it back was if they had a new hardware/firmware update in which they physically had to add parts, and change the operating system. There is a new version 3 firmware update coming out soon, but apparently there is a chance you can upgrade your unit at home. With the exede, any time you get new upgrades and stuff you download the pre-made maps off the Vishnu website then load them onto the exede via laptop or however you can get it on there.
Basically if you get the exede the flash for the ECU you can get is to change the only things on the ECU that the Exede can't (rev limit, max turbo pressure, and a couple of things).
Hope this clears stuff up.

worst explanations ever. Also the UTEC is a piggyback too for the person who said it wasnt. Yes to raise the revlimit, fuel/boost cut raised you will need what is called "XEDEflash" which is a little bit more on top of the price when purchasing your XEDE. Everyone has pretty much got the idea of the X-flash "which is different from the XEDEflash" and has to be reflashed each time you need a new tune for new upgrades. With the XEDE you have the ability to make changes on the fly via a PC or Laptop with a Serial connection.

Maybe YOU should be the one who's doing the searching. The UTEC, like the Xede, are piggy-back engine management systems.
