First of all, I am very sorry to hear about your situation. This is an expensive hobby.

I wouldn't consider myself to be anyone's 'groupie'. Before I do anything with my car, I conduct an exhaustive amount of research specific toward what I'm contemplating. If I'm going to allow someone else to do it, I'll take that volume of research and *double* it.

Before turning judgment over to a tuner, ask not only what they can do, but what they cannot do. You'll usually learn as much from the latter answer as the former. If anything, you may find that what you have in your head is not the wisest option if it tests accepted limitations.

Finally, I'd personally never recommend anyone asking a tuner to 'push' their car. They just might have as much nerve than you do, and as to how long it lasts beyond that is purely a gamble.

but surely, we all know what the point was...

MGBSTI...personalities/cust service IS a BIG DEAL..I can feel ya man!
There are places I still go purely because of cust service (even if they're too expensive!!)
But if you're like me, there really isn't much we can do about that. If I knew how to tune a car, believe me, I'd be using an HKS F-CON pro or a MOTEC. Period. But I don't....
Thus, I have to trust someone else to do it for me (that's my choice)...and deal with everything that goes with it. Because I want something so much, I either have to accept it, work with it, or go somewhere else.

Man, cars/racing is just too damn good. With never ever really feeling 100% satisfied with the end result, I think the "process" is what I really enjoy - with the end result coming in a close second.

very much so.
its just a catch 22, and luckily (while i know it doesnt seem to be) for tuners the only downfall they have is peoplebad mouthing them on message boards.
i think wed all take that over lawsuits and lose of jobs/houses/investments .
two sides to every coin.
