ive seen one at the srtip and it ran 14's. unless modified it would loose to a stock evo. 350 hp in a big heavy rwd car doesnt compare well against the 4wd launch of the evo. modded the esprit would have good top end tho.

No, that is entirely untrue. The Lotus 2.2L engine was entirely their own design, and goes back to the '70s. Isuzu did not use this engine, but merely (as per my recollection) consulted Lotus for some engineering help for the cylinder head for their 1.8L engine.

Big, heavy? FWIW, the Lotus V8 Esprit weighs just a hair over 3000lb, which is slightly less than an EVO. Additionally, the 350hp figure (100bhp/L) is certainly underrated, probably for the sake of UK auto insurance rates (which vary with hp ratings). Mildly tuned versions are cranking out 550bhp fairly easily.

Like many cars, a V8 Esprit will not get the jump on a quick-launching AWD EVO, although a well-driven Esprit can romp from 0-60 in about 4.4 sec. From a roll at highway speeds, just about any EVO with the stock turbo can forget trying to stick with the Esprit.

Your crazy. Maybe a hand me down Lotus with over a hundred K on the speedo. You obviously don't know much about cars. This car is lighter than the Evo about 2800 pds. I'm a huge Evo fan, but really your showing your intelligence .

Hey Ted
Lotus did in fact use an Isuzu engine in thier Lotus Elan in the early 90's but it was never put in an Esprit

Yep, you're right about that...but I should have been more clear, as I was referring to Esprits.

no no no you are all wrong EVERYONE !!!!!! The lotus weights about 100 lbs and it has 1,000,000 WHP and it goes from 0-60 in less then .000000000000001.... Hahahahaha
Who cares. I have the Evo because it's a really awesome car. Handling, Power, breaking and etc..... with the Lotus, it's not realiable.....When it starts breaking down, I hope you have lots and lots of money. Just modd your Evo the right way and you will blow pretty much any car out of the water. Think about it guys......

Money wise:

Evo VIII = $ 30,000

Modds
Turbo Back = $ 765.00 (Gruppe-S)
MBC = $ 60.00 (AMS)
Intercooler + Lower Pipe = $ 1,000 (AMS)
HKS Cams = $ 300 (Gruppe-S)
680cc Injectors = $400 (AMS)
Fuel pump = $ 100 (Gruppe-s, AMS)
Al's Flash = about $500 or more

Total = $ 3,125

So the car is about $ 30,000 modds about $ 3,125 Total $ 33,125
witha total of about 360-380WHP....
Now How much is a LOTUS? About $88,900 and how is the reliability?

The way I see it the Lotus will have no chance of beating the Evo with these modds. This is pretty easily modded the way I see it. Keep in mind the price..... Thats why us Evo guys can talk crap and others can't. Our cars with modds and all still cost less then an average car.

Unfortunately, EVO owners do tend to talk a lot of crap. Conversely, Lotus V8 owners don't say much of anything because they don't need to.

Comparing a Lotus V8 to an EVO is comparing apples and oranges. One is a Japanese sport sedan that is oriented toward youth, while the other is a race-bred exotic and looks it. Those who can afford the Lotus can usually afford the service needs thereof. In other words, one cannot expect to afford to own a Lotus V8 on an EVO budget.

As far as the Lotus vs. EVO, from a roll, even with those mods, you are going to run into trouble. Why? Because the Cd of the Lotus almost certainly makes the EVO look like a parachute in comparison.

Finally, you can deduct $650+ installation from your total above because the larger IC doesn't give any more power at that level anyway. It doesn'tmake much difference because no amount of hp will elevate the EVO to the status of a Lotus Esprit V8.

you know what it's not worth to argue with anyone. I seen my friends Evo waste a 360 Modena with the modds I just listed and your telling me that the Lotus will still take the Evo.....Man get down from the tree you are in and stop what you are smoking. Get the fact straight bro. Stock Lotus is about 13.2 the same like a Evo. Lets say the Lotus wins by a bumper or eye lash, but once you modd the Evo you are talking insane power. I know Ferrari's that won't mess with modded Evo.
