You can delete the AC if you would like. However, i would run an idler pulley in its place. While we cant confirm the idea or not, it seems that running a short belt may put more of the tension on the center of the power steering pump shaft. We thought this could have been the problem with the 25 hour car, thats why we put the AC back in....but then it broke that too, so it seems that the demotic harmonic was just against us that day.

In any event, good luck with the rest of the season.

Buy a belt from an Evo RS with no AC and use that instead of the stock belt. While I understand the theory Dustin, I have to agree to disagree. I find it had to believe that would cause the failure, but I could be wrong.

Here's a very good thread with A/C removal and weight information.

I had mine removed last week, and track tested it at Thunderhill last saturday. No problems so far. The belt that should be used is a JDM part that the JDM EVO RS uses. I got mine at WORKS. In general, it was a shorter belt. I weighed everything (as best I could)....about 30lbs. On the track, however, it was steady-state cornering all the way. Very neutral (but that's probably more because of the suspension tuning).
Anyway, use the JDM EVO RS accessory belt if you intend to remove the AC.
