I should've remembered from your dramatic Tennesspeed exit that you'll argue till the end of time. I'm done here, old man. The six speed can nevAr lose!

Slowride,

Don't let em bring you down I believe the MR's 6 speed is NOT made by mitsubishi, correct me if I am wrong..I notice a significant difference in smoothness of the tranny over the base EVO..I also noticed a much greater difference in gearing while driving next to an 05 base evo8 in every gear except 1st and 2nd..I do not think the 6 speed is weaker in any way compared to the base evo's since the diffs are the same..If they were weaker I doubt they would be used in the FQ400..For 1500 over what a base 8 with sun & sound would have cost me I would make the decision to buy an MR 1000 times again..It actually feels like a 30,000 car when you drive it and less like a "great platform to build off of".

However, for the difference in cost, you can take a GSR and make it waaaaay faster than a stock MR, which is why I've always said that the MR isn't worth it ... to me.

But can you finance all your mods through the same loan!!!!!!!?didn't think so.
Some of us dont have 10 grand laying around to just mod away with..
BTW an extra 3500 over the base evo 8 is WELL worth it in my eyes

Tennesspeed, bah! I dared to speak my mind on a controversial subject--one or two posts on one thread, so it's not like I beat a dead horse--and the next thing I know I'm locked out. No warning, no chance to apologize (I wouldn't have, anyway), not even the courtesy of a notification. Frankly I'm glad they booted me because I'm not into circle jerks where everyone agrees with everyone else, or else...

Yeah, right. My age is relevant and I'm constantly going on about the superiority of the 6-speed.

wow people goin nuts on what is better than what haha...im a subaru widow i guess and now im a cahoots with an MR...basically if youre a true modifier i think the gsr takes top shelf but if youre just tired of the game and just want to enjoy a 'modified enough' car the MR is the way to go...granted it costs an arm and leg but hey im an awd rally kinda guy and the MR satisfies me in stock format....

The reason why this is here is because I have a vishnu stage 1++ and love the power it has, plus the way vishnu handles its customers. My friend also wants to go the vishnu route because of the way my car drives now.

I was hoping that the vishnu people (shop guys, or stage owners) would have an opinion on the subject, what is easier to tune or what can handle more power? when I heard that the MR was coming out I talked to someone at vishnu about getting one, but they said that the one they were planning to get was going to have the tranny swapped for the 5speed, with or without acd i dont know? Thats my main concern is the tranny, you can get a front diff and cusco makes a center diff in a couple different tq splits, but im not sure if the electronic center diff and 6th gear are better than mechanical diff with only 5 gears? I know this guy and bilsteins or not he will change to coilovers, and the rims will be changed also. My 03 has the 10.5 and he knows where to get it.

So I guess my question should have been, if you get the same after market coilovers, same after market rims and tires, and same hp, will the tranny and lighter roof make that much of a difference to warrant the extra $$$?

I don't think so. Sure, you can resell the stock parts you remove to make up some of the difference, but you'd be better off holding on to them so you can return the car to stock when you sell it.

I think the MR is a better choice for those planning few, minor mods.

slowride is correct in that the mr is far superior if one is planning on keeping the vehicle stock to race it in a stock division like a scca class. the bilsteins are amazing and this alone makes the car better. all 05s have front lsd and the 10.5 cm hotside. 5spd vs 6 spd is up for debate. vishnu believes that 5 spd is more tested, but under no circumstances am i stating that the 6 spd is weaker.
I think that people that plan to heavily mod the car should buy the standard evo just to save the extra 3k as the suspension, and wheels will be switched most likely to coilovers and wider rims. since the 5 speed is at least as good as the 6 spd there is no direct advantage there other than gas savings and a minute gearing advantage. The vortex generator can be easily be added to any evo. unless money is not as issue i think the standard evo is a better value.

I was considering buying an 03 EVO but I ended up with an 05 just because the used ones with 15k miles were only 5-6k cheaper than a brand new one! Plus, it seems the 03-04s had a lot of problems with transmission (synchros), clutches, and most importantly transfer case problems... later down the road, which since I was planning to mod, would suck really bad. Plus, I get the ACD, teflon shifter cables, 10.5 hotside, and electric blue!

Ok I admit it... the real reason I bought the MR was because my "Princess and the Pea" *** can't handle the stiffer ride of the GSR...

very smart you actually didnt call the base evo 8 the "gsr" since that trim only exist in japan. most base evo 8 owners here cant accent they have a base model so they become posers and call theirs gsr. its like some honda si guys calling theirs SiR when really its just an Si. lol that was kind of off topic but its okay. and i do like the MR, some are just too dumb to accept that there is another [better] choice for the evo enthusiast.

who the **** cares what you call it, its a quick and easy way of differentiating which model you are talking about. and its not a "base" evo, a base evo is the RS.
