V3 Boost or fuel cut?

Well this is strange and I'm not even sure if it is either. This has happened a couple of times, but when going wot or close to wot in 4th gear around 4000 - 4500rpms my boost will sometimes just drop right down to 8 - 10psi then instantly climbs back up to normal boost pressure. Anyone know what this may be? I get no popped cell or anything. Sometimes timing feels like it is pulled, but no cell. Also I'm a stock evo equipped with only a XEDE.

No, I wouldn't say a VIOLENT hickup... Small hickup if any... Boost just shoots down to 10psi then seems to climb back again. Some timing seems to be pulled. This only happens once in a while. I can do 4th gear pulls all day then sometimes it will drop boost around those certain rpms.

7000ft+

I'm stock and I know some people at high altitudes need a fuel pump, but only if they have a TBE.

I'll check, but how would that effect boost?

Well, it was a thought.

PS: I found a really great townhouse up in the NE heights -- enough garage space for the Evo, the WRX, _and_ extra parts.

Nice you should PM me the cross streets. Heights are great, a friend of mine lives in some townhouses between candeleria and commanche. Not to badly priced either.

Whoa, I'm pretty close to that. Juan Tabo x Montgomery is basically it. It's funny, the street/subdivision isn't even on any online maps. As a matter of fact, a lot of the places I looked at haven't yet made it onto google maps or mapquest.

Go figure. It's Albquerque.. they're slow at everything. You will be VERY close to a 101oct pump though. I believe it is on the corner of Juan Tabo and Indian School called "Premier Gas and Food". Just a tip.

I have a similar situation with the latest V3 firmware. Typically this occurs in my case from a standing start and on the first shift the problem goes away.

What I find strange in both cases why does the boost pressure home in on ~9 psi. To be sure this isn't a fuel cut or anything similar.

I have tried the obvious mechanical things which leaves the Xede's boost control. If I had the older V1 firmware I would reflash to test if the problem goes away....

Comments anyone?

This is exactly what is happening with mine only mine only does it in 4th gear between 4000 - 4500 rpms... no cell, just HUGE boost drop. It is weird how it does go to 9psi -10psi when it happens.
