Evo IX Turbo, wtf?

Vishnu: I'm not really sold on any of the bolt-in turbos (nameless so ppl don't hijack this thread) so I want to know about getting the new turbo into an Evo VIII. So...

Mitsubishi Part Number: ?
Price: ???
Availability: ???
Dyno charts: ???
Direct Bolt-In: ??? (Not sure with the larger compressor cover)

Oh, and I really couldn't care less if it's called a TD06-10.5TMI-JKLMNOP-ZZZ or whatever. I also know it's made out of exotic unobtanium metals and all sorts of other gee wiz widgets and doodads. This is not a thread to repost what the turbo is made of, what the nomenclature is, how much larger the compressor cover is by percentage and ...blah blah blah. That's already been covered in other threads, I want to hear about how well this bad boy performs in an Evo VIII and with dyno charts.

Knowing Vishnu is kinda tight with MMNA, I would ASSUME some bright fellow has already sourced one and is busy tuning it on the dyno right now in one of the shop cars. I know the IX's are already in Cali, what's the hold up here???

Discuss!

I know they are availible from Japan. It is in fact a magnesium wheel, and a bigger housing, at least from what I hear. Being that it is made out of ubber metals, the price is an ubber high price. (Which I am not even 100% sure of.) I was going to buy one for my car, but I have a track day this weekend, so I swapped to another stock one, after my whole dirt in the turbo ordeal.

I still may pick one up at some point. From what our friends in the UK tell us, the evo IX is not to be taken lightly.

From a very reliable source from Japan, the turbo cost 180,000 yen. So around 1500- 1600 usd.

Any idea how it compares to the Evo 8 turbo with 10.5 housing?

This is the turbo that is in the GT (Rest of World Evo) - which will not find its way into the US Evo's; correct??

It wont be worth upgrading to an EVO9 turbo. If you upgrade go with something that will provide better returns. The nines are barely making more HP and they also have mivec helping them along. Just stick with the 10.5HS stocker until you are ready to go big.

9's barely making more HP? I dont know of any stock VIII's with the addition of a tune making 275 AWHP on Vishnus dyno on 91 octane.

But still, if your going to upgrade your VIII turbo you might as well aim higher.

Wow, you guys are responding to a very old post...
The have the magnesium wheel. If you go to the dealerships they have
Handouts explaining the mag wheel, ect.

Res04 is right. The IX's are making a lot more power then the 8s..
