USB to Serial to connect to XEDE help

I'm trying to connect to my XEDE using a USB to Serial converter cable as my new laptop doesnt have a serial port on it. I can't seem to connect to the xede at all with it. Drivers and proper software is installed. I was just curious if anyone has any experience with this with suggestions. Thanks!

Sorry for the dumb question but I've been a Mac guy for a while now.

I got as far as Device Manager and I can seems to find Ports in the list? I'm getting the "COM 1 is being used by another program" message whenever I start the XMAP software.

Greetings,

Something else you might want to try.

On one of the Xede software menus " Options " ...

1.) Options
2.) Comms Setup
3.) There will be a menu ...
a.)COM1
b.)COM2
c.)COM3
d.)COM4 etc etc.

Pick one of those and see how it works.

I ended up connecting on COM2 because COM1 was occupied.

I tried COM1 through COM127 and I'm still getting the same message.

If this helps...
I bought my USB to Serial converter from Best Buy.
It says DYNEX FC DX-UBD89 Made In China.
