Stage 3 Installed....not tuned yet

I just spent the last 3 days installing a Stage 3 kit on my car. Ran into a little trouble with clearance around the front engine mount but that was dealt with by the angle grinder quite nicely. The only other trouble some part was that the pipe that is supplied to fit up to the downpipe is quite off where my current downpipe matches up with the turbo.

Right now the only exhaust running on the car is about 5 inches of a what can best be described as o2 Housing/Downpipe connector. My question for the Vishnu geeks is I have not been able to connect to my exede because of a comm port and possibly a non compatible usb to serial port connect and have not been able to load a map for the stage 3 kit onto my xede. Will the car be safe to drive out of boost and at say 3.5 k rpms max till I can get it to the tuner?

I assume you bought the Stg 3 used since it ships with a modified engine mount that is already modified for clearance. As for XEDE communication, try the ATEN usb converter. That has shown to work. You will also need an XEDEFlash to accomodate the larger injectors. The XEDE is used for the final stages of tuning as well as boost control.

^ yeh, you are not quite there yet.

I know you just want to know if you can drive it. You will be bouncing off the fuel cut and it will be loud as hell. Oh, and I hope you have some kind of o2 eliminator if you don't have your exhaust hooked up.

I would say you could putt around but I wouldn't "drive" it.

Thanks for the advice Shiv. Yes I am aware that the kit that you sell and ship does include the engine mount that would of made the install easy as cake, however my punishment for trying to save some bucks was fabbing up a new one. Also Shiv, is the ecu re-scaling completely nec. ? I know you do reccomend it and I do plan on doing it however I have been told from a few that it is not needed, however it does tend to help up with drivability down low?

Hey could you email me your maps, for pump and race gas, along with the boost levels. I am looking to get this thing tuned this week so having the maps would be good!

Well the downpipe and everything went on and was tuned on 780cc injectors. The car made 386 whp and 320ft/lbs of torque(93 octane/20psi). I'm a little dissapointed on the torque number, I thought the car would spool quicker than it does, any advice Shiv?

My torque ranges from 324-335 TQ, but I run 22-23psi. Yours seems normal to me.

He's running a Stage 3, and that seems real low for that level.

Is that normal? I put down 306whp on a Dynojet without cams or a test pipe with a White Rabbit.

Atlvalet, he's running 93 octane.

That number is right on the mark. I did 373 in hot weather with 91 and IEEvo put down clost to 400 with his stage 3 and an agressive tune on 91.

When he tunes for race gas he'll be higher, probably 70 - 80 hp more.

Welcome to the joy of uprading your turbo.

Those numbers do not seem to be that far off. For comparisons sake, my 3071 comes in at almost those exact numbers, but I'm running 3 more psi than you are. Throw in some racegas, tune it, and you'll see much bigger gains with the bigger turbo. When are you spooling up and when do you hit full boost?

Thanks for all the posts guys, you do not know how reassuring it is to have you guys backing up the numbers I have now. It is running very nice, its making 20 psi by 4k, which seems very high. I am still running a MBC and I was told that this could be part of the problem with spoolup, with the configuration I am running now Doug from Topspeed said some spool up could be recooped by running a EBC which he said would allow the wastegate to sense pressure change faster I believe? I was also told I could pick up some spool by switching to a different/more efficient intercooler? I feel like this is opposite thinking to what I believed when moving to a larger core, somebody please tell me I'm wrong.

Racegas tune will happen before too long, hopefully a intake manifold and front mount will be on there by then, my goals are 420 on pump and 500 on race gas.....
