"Timing Gymnastics" Question
I have been working my way through all of the threads associated with SMART. I am truly impressed on how much information had been posted.
I have been able to answer most of my own questions.
I have, however, hit a point where I would love a little guidance. I have developed what I consider a fairly safe map that leans out appropriately and has no knock. I then added the positive timing to the SMART timing table. This seemed to work great. I really like the way the car now responds while off boost. The problem is that occasionally I now get a knock event at 4500 RPM.
There is a distinct amount of positive timing before and after this knock so modifying the SMART Timing table seems to make the most sense. Hopefully I have posted the appropriate graphs to demonstrate the knock as well as to identify solutions.
So... What is the best way to remove this knock? Is it even necessary?
If anyone has recommendations on how I should tweak my maps in other ways either because my tune is not optimum or I have a problem -- Please let me know

Try this....
1. Reduce the amount of timing you add in the smart table by .75 degrees.
2. Add .75 degrees into the low load portion of your base timing map.
This will only add in the full timing when knock conditions are low, and load is also low. However, it will still allow you to add in some timing at WOT.
I just re-did my map like this, and I love it.

I guess it is now time to do some low load logging on my base timing map so I can see where it would be most effective to add timing.
BTW -- Thanks to Vishnu for developing SMART. Since installing it I have really enjoyed digging into what it is capable of. It has not only improved the power and drivability of my car but also drawn me into what is going on with the tune. I have learned a lot (tip of the iceberg I realize) and had a great time doing it.

I love it too....i tweaked mine alittle this weekend....running no knock...just barely leans outs at WOT at high rpms....but nothing the SMART system can;t account for. I'm considering getting the XD-1 AFR gauge just to help monitor things alittle more. I think it would be a great piece of mind at the track...don;t want to stick a piston or anything.
Any chance vishnu could get us any sort of deal on these gauges? I know a lot of people have been buying them on this board.

JTB, on your map views, did you color them like that, or is that coloring a function inside XMap? i've never seen that before.
I know you can highlight the table and it will create a trace through it, but on mine it would just turn the numbers yellow, not very easy to read.
