Always good to check the plugs/wires/etc.... if still there a week or 2 later, then you might want to check the bolts to the coils. Good luck! Keep us posted.

Well, the plugs didn't fix it. The coils were secured down good. This is only the second time I have replaced the plugs so the bolts threaded in nice. The spark plug wires looked ok.

I wish the CEL would trigger and tell me whats wrong.

On another note, this just started happening yesterday after I install another turbo kit. I never touched the coils or connectors. The only connectors I unplugged during the install was the fan and MAF, which are both plugged in.

How do I diagnose a coil or plug wire issue?

Also, this is the same misfire (different RPM & load, but same style of misfire) I was getting when I was running the SMART advance map. I had been running the SMART advance until one day it started misfiring in the advance cells.

In my thread "clunking behind the glovebox" someone mentions how to check the coils. Keep us posted.

What plugs are you running, and what gap? it s cold up where you live correct? We will figure it out. Did you disconnect the neg. terminal on battery, 5-10 min, then re-connect. Start the car (dont touch the gas) and let it idle for 5 minutes, then try it?

Have a friend with an evo come over and swap the wires (could be broken inside where you cant see) and the coils. That will narrow the possibilites down. Andrew at Dyno4mance changed a wire, and the problem was gone. (broken inside somehow)

I am using BR8ES gapped to .024. Its in the 50's up here. The battery was disconnected and the car idled for around 15 mintues after install.

Most people around here don't work on there own EVO's so I am probably going to find it difficult to talk someone into letting me take off there coils.

Okay I swapped my wires and coils with another evo owner and it didn't help so I don't think that is the case. Now when I go home I'm gonna check if there's a boost leak somewhere.

I can't remember your mods, (JJ) are you squirting meth? what turbo did you install. How about a brief mod list. I assume you forgot a letter on the plugs "BPR"?

When did the misfire start? noticable after a mod?
has it been in the 50's for a while?
Go re check the plugs you just took out, what are they gapped at? How old and what type were they?

Could you state again the problems. you cant stomp on it? from a light, because it dies, and comes back to life at 4500? I want to make sure I read it right now!

Okay, normal driving it runs perfect. When I want to boost then it starts bogging, fluttering bad. At times seems like fuel cut. It's weird cuz sometimes it starts as low as 4k rpm, and sometimes 5-6k rpms. I think it might have to do with boost leak now somewhere by my greddy type rs bov. but when I first installed it, everything was working fine, power felt great throughout the powerband and now suddenly it's doing what it's doing. Oh yeah and what's weird too is my CEL doesn't come on anymore....Usually it comes on every 3rd or 4th time I start the car but for some reason it doesn't come on. Just to throw that out.

Mods: XEDE, cams, RX6 turbo, 3" TBE. I don't use the "BPR", just the "BR" as per Vishnu's recommendation. The misfire start immediately after the turbo install. The weather varies from 30-50 degrees. The plugs (BR8ES) I took out, looked good and were gapped exactly at .024". They have been in the car for 8000 miles.

Sorry if you answered this already, but did you put back the stock BOV? I had the TurboXS RFL bov early on, and the "piston" in there would get stuck and cause issues. It ran fine for a couple weeks. Replace it back to see if it solves the problem.

I will think this thru quicksilver, and be back in a few.

I'll switch it back tonight to see if that's the culprit. but why/how would the piston get stuck in there? But that may solve the problem...hopefully

I don't know how, but when I looked in there, there was a small "chip" at the top lip of the "bore". and caused it to stick, and not close all the way. Try it, we'll get to the bottom of it!

I thought Vishnu recommends the BPR's, as thats what I have been running, but you have a different turbo (Lucky guy, and great choice!) Someone dynoed it correct? After the turbo install. I guess there aren't many
"shelf maps" for this turbo, as not many people have it. I assume you have the larger injectors and fuel pump, which means you are getting enough fuel to match the increase in air. Do you have any guages to see what the engine is doing during this? Ie AEM UEGO Gauge? is this dynoed? do you know how to change the tables, or "tweak" them? And no, you dont need a laptop. I drug mine in the garage, put it on a chair and did it the hillbilly way! I had a random misfire issue when I pulled loose some wires on my Xede, and it fell out of its spot next to the ECU, and anyway, I can push the wires on the Xede and make it stall or Pop-pop! Just for giggles, start the car, and "GENTLY" move the wires on the XEDE,and see if the car idles differently, or quits. If so, you have to push the wires down in the holes with your fingers, to re=connect the loose connection. This was just one of my many problems. This one is a stretch, but might as well cover all bases. What brand injectors? who did the install?

More Questions to follow.
