Question for Shiv?

Shiv, how much whp you would get from an 05 sti with the vishnu stage 1 (v370) kit with Xede and standard turboback exhaust?

The usually put down 260-265whp on our DD dyno on pump gas (with a cat).

I ve heard that a stock 05 sti can have between 230-252whp. What is the true stock whp of a 05 sti, since i have been getting mixed information? Thank You.

It depends on the dyno they got it off of. There are alot of variables in the dynos, the DynoDynamics being the most realistic, there is Dynojets, mustang dynos,Barbie playhouse dynos etc... but the numbers are very different on different dynos/different ambient weather conditions, where the car tire is in relation to the top of the rollers etc... What type of Dyno does the Subi factory use? That is the HP for that car out of the factory. use that dyno on a different day, the number can still be off a bit. This dyno number thing can get confusing.

I, and alot of gearheads strap down on the Dyno, not looking for the highest "score", but to get the best TUNE. I don't care about the numbers, just a safe tune. my2c

smokedmustang,
I dont own a car yet, I am only 17 and planning to get a car at 18. I am just researching different cars that I am interested in. As they say it is always better to plan ahead, so thats why I am studying the sti and evo. I have been reading up on these cars and others to make a decision on what to get. I know a evo and sti is not a good car for an 18 year olds but i am just planning ahead.

Thats fine, if you are smart enough at your age to study these cars, I say your intellegent enough to have one. I can tell you this, if you want to go off road, or keep it stock, go with the Subie, there are by FAR more mods to be done with the Evos, and they aren't as expensive to "raise the bar" as the Subies are. I am glad to see you studying, good luck to you. You are a smart kid. ( I am 41, so I can call you a kid, no disrespect intended)

I know it is harder to make power on a sti than a evo. It is also more expensive to get the same amount of power from a sti. The only reason I am leaning towards a sti is the reliability of the car for daily driving.

And you also wont be tempted to buy go-faster parts, as the prices would give you a heartattack. The evos are very reliable also, but that could lead to a downhill spiral, I know, the more you put on and in them, just go read some of my threads! Your research is paying off.

It seems you have been having problems with the evo from the clutch to the popping sound to etc. Thats the main reason I am kinda leaning towards the sti. I heard the new evo IX is more reliable and powerful but I dont have all the funds to purchase that car especially since I am in college. But most people on this forum believe that i should get something slower to begin with, I guess I could agree (06 civic si or acura rsx-s) .

im 17 and i have a evo 9. If you are responsible you can handle it. I got a full ride scholarship thats how i could afford mine. I got to take all my money i had saved for college (about 7 grand) and put it down on a loan. now i can bearly afford to keep gas in it, but its doable. Good luck with insurace though im gettin raped like a 110lb guy in cell block d. Its a very driver freindly car and the dealership well surely help out alot in picking one out and letting you know how to take car of it. I drove a new STi as well as the new evo and I prefered the evo because it felt more nible and resposive.
