The problem is there is no clear conversion. RON and MON are two different testing procedures to determine the knock resistance under different conditions. It's not like the euro to the dollar.

Well the short of it is that you _can't_ convert. Both RON and MON are measured quantities, not derived units. The reason they don't match is that they are determined under different conditions (RPM I believe).

Practically speaking MON is usually "a little less" than RON.

PS - I suppose that if you are really up on your chemistry and have access to big computers you could simulate a fuel blend at the molecular level. Then you could calculate RON an MON, but I digress. :-p

well the best gas i can get is 95 RON, ive been using it and i havent heard any knock in my engine while driving, but just to be on the safe side i always use octane boosters i use NOS OCTANE BOOSTER the one which says it increases 60points or 6 full points.

Well by a simple calculation, even if the MON is anything above 87 points, you would still be fine with the 95 RON, as that would be 91 oct. by American standards. [(RON+MON)/2 ]The question is how reliable are the testing and quality control procedures they are using?

yep thats what i dont know and i dont trust them,so this is why i keep using octane boosters to be on the safe side of things do you think its ok??

RON is almost always higher than MON. They can be anywhere from 3-10 points different depending on the blend of fuel. Pump gas numbers in the US are an average of the two.

So if your RON is 95 and your MON is 91, you would have a 93 pump rating.
