1 tank of race gas for 2 sessions?!

Just got back from Buttowillow over the weekend with Speedtrialusa. Great weather and alot of track time.
Put in 100 octane race gas and had lots of power with my X-flash. The only thing that I couldn't believe was how thirsty the evo was!! A session of 20 minutes WOT and half tank of gas was gone!! Spend $180 for 3 tanks of gas in 2 days

Guess you have to get the power from somewhere.......

You should see how much gas I go through at GGLC events. Seven 30 min sessions at Thunderhill.

I spend about $300 a day on 100 octane at those events.

320 MD whp + 100 octane at $5.70/gallon + 30 min sessions + 4 MPG = me in the poor house.

I have to top off the car almost every session so I don't get fuel starvation in corners.

Unless you are SUPER competitive, why are you running race gas at a road race? I usually take the standard map and add in 4 points of fuel. I'd rather run a tad richer on pump than pay $200 for race gas especially since that power doesn't really add up to much in the twisties.

I've never gotten a straight answer out of Shiv about whether or not the posted maps are "HPDE SAFE". I have no way of logging my timing. If I did I would be able to determine if the motor heat soaks and starts to pull timing after a few hard laps.

Couple of points/questions guys, I run straight 91 with no alteration to the map I run every day on the street and have had no issues at the track. Shiv's maps are that good so I don't think you need race fuel unless you are on an actual race gas map.

Also I run my car down to below "e" on the track with no fuel starvation issues. I do it all the time so I can set a time with the car as lite as possible. How many people actually get fuel starvation? I've heard the stories of engines blowing up etc. but has it actually happened or was it just blamed because the guy was running his car lean or something like that?

chronohunter-

I switch to a race gas map. I can run with 91 octane on my 91 map as well with no issues too but I enjoy the power on the race gas map.

I have had fuel cut off below 1/4 tank before. I guess it depends on the track, but I have had it at Thunderhill and Reno. I try not to do that anymore.
