V-crew survey: C6 ZO6 vs. Porsche Cayman S

This is a valid comparison because they are both 2 seaters that cost almost exactly the same (mainly due to the pricey options on the Cayman). So, which would you buy if you had to choose between the two and why?

Z06. 500 hp...at the wheels. Screw German engineering and reliability, wait till GM declares bankruptcy and get a Z06 for rock bottom.

That is a tough one. All three of my buddies with C5's ending up selling them due to mechanical problems (engine and tranny mostly).

Dollar for dollar, the ZO6 and the Cayman are almost identical. And both are true two seaters.

My wife would actually let me get the Porsche, but hates the idea of me driving the Z because of its "white guy having a mid-life crises" reputation. I also like the sanity of the Porsche. I'd be flat-out scared to track the Z, whereas the Porsche would be a better, safer track car for someone of my lowly skills. But it is really hard to pass on all that power! I'd probably get the ZO6 just because I like drag racing....

I think I would enjoy the Cayman S more on the track and the Z06 more on the street.

Smog you know I think Porsches are the final frontier in sports cars, but you cant afford to pass up the freakish outliers that are cheaper. The Z06 is a huge freakish outlier and I feel needs to be picked up before you go any higher in price. The cayman looks good but Id get a used 911 (like Shiv did) and not pay the premium on a new lower level cayman. All the porsches are good I wouldnt mind a boxter s to absolutely thrash on my way up to sports car nirvana. The great thing about P cars is they work out to be affordable and reliable in the used market. I cant see the light were I might be able to justify a new pcar purchase when there are such deep discounts on superb models just a few years old. I would think twice about buying a used GM but not a porsche. Are you going to keep the EVO? If not the how bout a used 911 for a while- you wont regret it and your appreciation for trying to master that car will be great, then you can sell it for most of what youd payed and make the decision on if the Z06 is worth 25K more. If you must get a new car in that range it has to be the z06.

+1

I'd never consider a Z06 when I regularly see used 996tts asking for 65-70k. Reflash it and you're looking at 500bhp and 575lb-ft of torque!!! And it's a Porsche, not a GM. Big difference when it comes to resale, reliability, feel good factor, ergonomics and general drivability. Wouldn't matter if the Z06 made 800bhp. It's still has GM steering feel. That's a deal breaker for me.
