its crazy how the IX's can make so much more torque early. Also, from what I've seen, make more whp with the same mods...

Thanks for sharing the info Shiv. It looks to me like whp went up about 24-25whp and torque went up around 60lb/tq after the tunning.

The down side on Cams for the STI is the low competitive prices and vendors plus the labor but definately it is worth the torque increase.

not really.....its pretty much common sense as to why the EVO makes more torque earlier and more whp with the same mods....

and this coming from an ex wrx owner.....

i just think its cool that the mitsu motor is lacking half a liter of displacement but can make much more torque, and earlier torque at that. I used to own a WRX too for about 6 months, then the first Evos came out.

The EVO will never have more displacement......WHY, because WRC regulations say the engine has to be 2.0L or less (or something similar).

The JDM STI has a 2.0L block also, to comply with WRC regulations.

Why did we strat talking bout cams.

I though the STi in question only had intake and exhaust.

Yes but as many of us know, the US spec STi got a 2.5L engine for more torque with a watered down version of the JDM STi head. The cams on the US car as well as the flow rate are purposely made super inferior. Now good cams in a US STi would probably yield some good results everywhere and help that falloff of power up top. I wouldnt be surprised if subaru made a special 2L higher performance engine for the next bodystyle STi as a special model (sortof like the MR) and released it in the US. With the success of Mitsus MR, I'm sure it got Subarus attention.

I never said the EVO will have more displacement... I said its lacking a half liter. Was it really that confusing?

11.5:1 still allows for a large safety margin. that is the highest afr we have ran in AZ with no detonation on 91 octane water gas. & no i'm not trying to give Shiv advice. we all know he doesn't need it...

if 11.5 still allows for a LARGE safety margin, why havent you ran higher than than in AZ with no det? say 12:1?? Just trying to understand your logic.

is it not true that the leaner the AFRs, the higher the EGTs? If shiv can make just as much power at 10.5:1, compared to 11.5:1, then why tune at 11.5:1??

fwiw-most srt4 guys think that 12:1 is an ideal AFR.......I tend to disagree.
