Stupid Question?

W/o any tuning or boost modulation: How much added WHP does a turboback exhaust, that is beer can compliant, render on an Evo IX? Question #2 is after flashing an Evo IX and then adding an exhaust how much extra power will a hi flo Turboback render? Question #3 --same as ques #2 but test pipe on Turboback. A couple guys on this forum are telling me that 30 whp is what a TBe gives whp wise and I am thinking/ remembering hearing that the IXs exhausts only account for 15-20 whp loss. I also remember hearing that tuning is needed because of the evolution of the ECU/Maf in the IX. Shiv or any other competent person that tunes or has quantifiable evidence please let me know what u have seen or witnessed. I am not looking for what tuner/vendor X claims. Just real data.

Curious too. I remeber when the IX's came out adding a turboback didn't help much at all.

IE is comming back to the darkside.

TBE w/ HFC vs. Stock IX made about 10 more HP on a DD - dynod same day at Vishnu. However, the dyno chart looked a bit odd on the TBE equipped thus tuning IS needed to take full advantage of the free flowing exhaust.

From memory after the tune its about 20whp difference from stock vs. a TBE with a high flow converter, add around 8-10 for a test pipe.

Here is the dyno chart with the TBE installed, notice the curve, computer seems to say 'WTF, added flow' and makes some adjustments - but nothing that Shiv could not fix with the tune.

Search for Evo test #500 for a stock IX that was tuned the same day as mine.

Didn that guy Noize report a 30whp gain with a catless tbe and NO tuning on his IX?

That would be an amazing feat on a DD dyno.

But was the boost kept constant like in IE's question???

This kind of reminds me of Turbo Mags shootout for Evo 8 exhausts... they kept the boost constant with an ebc, and compared the whp made for each exhaust... sorry offtopic

Noize has a Stage 2 VIII, you're thinking of RallyRedEvo

^ Maybe that was his name. I knew it was someone from down south who did the dyno runs at dyno4mance

Yah.. but it wasn't backed up. The next time we tested it, it showed a much smaller gain. And then we made fun of him. lol

Yep, sometimes the truth is insulting.
The car made 240whp stock, RallyRedEvo and Andrew bolted on the exhaust, put it right back on the dyno, and the car made 3 repeated runs of 260whp with the exhaust in place.

He drove it around for a couple of months like that, and then it baselined back down at 240whp immediately before tuning. Then it jumped to like 298whp after Shiv got his custom tuned flash on.

Cliffs notes: It didn't stay.

Thanx for the competent quantified responses. I knew my brain damage was not that bad and an untuned exhaust did not add 30 whp. I also knew the only way it comes close is with a test pipe after tuning. I have been called a Newbie by this guy on a drag racing thread about racing with a bigger turbo and another one where he claims a TBE adds 30 whp.
