AFAIK they still have cams, the pneumatic part of the system is the valve spring. It's pretty universal being used since the about 1993, I think Renault introduced them in their first V10. There is always talk of a camless valvetrain with every generation of F1 engines but I don't think (?) anyone has run one in a race yet.

What about the old school f1 cars that were turbo driven? 1.5l displacement and 1400hp. Can't touch the hp per liter ratio.

^ They have no cams, the pneumatically operated valves is how they rev so high.

Now I know why the Renault engine is better than the Cosworth. Better tell those Cosworth gus to work with the lights on, kindda helps to see what you're going and stuff.

It has been talked about for over 10 years now, there was a ton of speculation when BMW entered F1 with their V10 (and it was instantly very strong) that it was camless (which turned out to be untrue). The actuator technology is not quite there yet plus it seems that the rules prohibit it in any case (at the moment).
